But insurance won't pay up! Picture: Ban Muang A company owner who killed a cow in an accident in Buri Ram in the north east of Thailand got some bad news when the insurance assessor arrived. Sorry, he said, you're not covered for hitting animals. Natthiya, 36, had been driving her Mercedes Benz anlong the Buriram to Surin Road in the Wat Thung Pho area when she said the cow just dashed out and she could not brake in time. Popular Post kotsak Posted February 26, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 26, 2020 Considering the fact that just replacing a rear view mirror can cost around 20K baht (quoted price from Benz dealer), you can imagine the cost fixing this mess.. 2 2

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted February 26, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 26, 2020 It is always extremely disappointing to learn that you are not covered by your insurance policy, when you take out a cow. Happens to the best of us! 1 2

Popular Post transam Posted February 26, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 26, 2020 One of those daft practices in LOS, letting cows roam the streets looking for grass. The owner of the stock should be made to cough up for the repairs.. 5

Popular Post richard_smith237 Posted February 26, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 26, 2020 This is an absolute ’get out’ by the insurance company. It’s entirely unreasonable that insurance refuses to cover a ‘no fault’ accident, this is exactly what insurance if for. What is the insurance company - I’ll be sure to never use them. Thus is where social media & naming & shaming counts. 4

I believe the law in Thailand is that the animal owner is liable and the insurance policy uses that as a an avoidance. Apart from claiming the dead animal as compensation it leaves little recourse to the Benz owner other than a futile attempt to sue. I guess if it was a feral animal the policy accepts. Have often wondered hat happens in the case of stray dogs? No owner per se' but are they considered non domesticated or "reared"? Have seen some significant damage caused by "dog strike" !
