Corona real figures: 2953 infections in Thailand only as of 29 Feb. 2020

It's amazing how the Thai government is covering up the real number of corona infected people.

On the official website of the ministery, just by accident, the number of viral pneumonia infections are now figuring 2953.

I think they do not want to test them on Corona. Why does this pneumonia infection suddenly spike?

Seems they try to protect their touristic business regardless the fact that people are unaware of viral spread. This is really shocking.

You are interpreting those documents incorrectly but, yes, the situation is laughable.

That 2,953 figure is the number of cases that have met the strict criteria necessary to qualify as "patients under investigation". It does not matter if a patient presents with all the symptoms, he will not become a PUI unless he also meets all of those criteria, including travel in an outbreak region. This is precisely designed to avoid having to discover, investigate, and admit to the community-transmitted cases that would trigger other countries to restrict travel to Thailand.

There has been an ongoing, untreated, and uncontained outbreak in Thailand since before the outbreaks in Japan, Korea, Iran, and Italy. It is almost certain that the number of infected in Thailand is higher than any of those countries. Thailand's innovation has been to control the numbers by not counting them. The inevitable consequence is that, within a few more weeks, Thailand will become the new, unstoppable epicenter for Covid-19.

Pretty much every doctor in Thailand understands the true situation and will tell you to act as if you are in the midst of a major outbreak. This week, more countries will follow Kuwait's lead and evacuate their citizens, despite the official infection count remaining below 50.

I do not know what the Thai government thought they were doing, perhaps they genuinely believed this would all blow over once the weather improved, but they have permanently destroyed what little credibility Thailand had. There is a good chance that their response, compared to Korea's, will become a notorious footnote in human history.

The Thai government figures are not surprising...nor would the actual cases in China and other countries being multiples of what is being reported...be a surprise.

 

All government statistics are suspect...they think non- government citizens are incapable of handling the truth...

i have only two comments about the corona situation:

 

1. the number of confirmed cases in any country can be used as an indication for the 

number of unconfirmed cases, per two weeks, simply by multiyplying it by 25.

that's because each confirmed case has propably infected at least 5 people

by the time discovered, and so each of those 5 people will infect at least another

5 people by the time they will realise they got infected. so in thailand, according to the

official number of 42 confirmed cases, the number of suspected cases should be 1050

people, for the next two weeks.

 

2. SCREENING acctually means nothing. to check if a person really has corona virus

from the latest model, one needs to go threw a deep and special check, that takes

around 4-5 days in a specialised laboratory. when the document you mention here

mention "2,890,342 tourists were screened", it means just that their body temperature

was takes in the air port   with that stupid meter. absolutely uselss for COVID-19 detection.

 

the good thing thailand has to fight this nasty virus is it's warm climate.

i remember during the SARS epidemic, how a friend of mine travelled to china, and when

he told the taxi driver he came from thailand, the taxi driver refused to take him because

Guys, from what I am reading, this post is just creating anxiety, we all know about the Thai government and yes I dare say their figures are low, but what about other countries, the WHO's guidelines state that they don't want PUI "people under investigation" put into the system, only confirmed cases, so why are you trying to make things worse than they are.

 

I have a 5 year old coughing in the background, with a slight fever, (seasonal) all of my kids are sniffing, sneezing, coughing, do they all have the Coronavirus, NO, give it a rest, lock yourself up if you are so concerned, takes some meds, and give some thought before you post, so over all the <deleted> that is going around, and if Thailand is lying and others, we will all find out eventually, some of us will die, others will survive, whatever, watch out crossing the road, look out for falling planes, just go on living for now and let this thing blow over as they will, and I think best I exit TVF until this thing blows over, because this topic is just like a broken record player, going over and over and over with the same tune.

It's not about remaining in ignorant bliss, it's about stating facts, not how someone perceives them and then throws it out into a public forum with nothing to substantiate it, the figures state 42 and that is what the WHO accept along with everyone else, fact, on the other hand if they are lying, where are the facts, there are none, see my point ?

Very few people know this, but you should know that the number of deaths contributed to the common flu is kind of a lie... 

And that the cause of pneumonia could be a lot of reasons.. over 30+.

No I don't. I have not buried my head in the sand, I don't trust this government as much as I don't trust any government, yes their figures are out of whack, but that said, without facts, without evidence, there is no point in to create anxiety, suffice to say, if we are all that worried, why don't we all up and go back to our homeland to wait it out.

Or it could be that ScoMo lost so much public support from how he handled the bush fire situation, looked at this as an opportunity, and decided to take a gamble, you know, go in early, regardless if it's a fizzer, it's a win/win in my eyes, albeit it I commend him for his early decision, regardless, you cannot afford to put public safety before economics.

 

I don't have the evidence to say the Thai government is lying, although if I look at bordering country statistics, I have to say there are no reporting any major cases of the Coronavirus, only Vietnam which reports (16), if we go to South-Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, the numbers increase, noting that the temperatures in those countries are different to here, e.g. 6 degree in South Korea, same in Japan, albeit it is 19 in Hong Kong and we know the virus likes the cooler climate.

 

Whether the above has anything to do with anything is anyone's guess, as for it being a pandemic, I would say not, it is a virus that is spreading as quick as the flu would, it is easier to get and it can kill, as can the influenza, it's mortality rate is low, as opposed to Ebola which was 90%, so until someone catches anyone out telling porkies with their numbers and puts it up here on TVF, it's business as usual for me, apart from extra care when out and about, cleaning hands more regular and not touching surfaces.

Last week I received an e mail from my daughters school saying that the education ministry had told them that any parent/child/teacher who had visited 6 infection prone countries must self quarantine and not attend school. The countries were the usual suspects, China, hk, Singapore etc.

 

2 days later I received another e mail saying that Vietnam and Malaysia had been added to the list by the education ministry.

 

today I received a further e mail to say that Vietnam and Malaysia had been removed from the list. No word of the reason why.

the cynic in me says it’s because some bangkok schools decided to close due to a shortage of non quarantined teachers/students. Solution....change the quarantine criteria. Just like the, “no riding in the back of pick ups during the highly dangerous season”. Get complaints that it’s inconvenient, “oh ok, go ahead and ride in the back of pick ups then”.
