Anutin and the virus: Advises Thais to make DIY masks - that'll teach the hoarders a lesson!

Thailand's embattled health minister has made another outburst about Covid-19.

 

Anutin Charnvirakul was quoted by Spring News after a meeting as saying that Thais should make their own masks from cloth. 

 

The DIY masks would be one in the eye for hoarders, said the man who hopes to be PM one day. 

 

He said such cloth masks would be more environmentally friendly than "surgical masks". 

 

He said gruffly: "That's the way to hurt the hoarders. It's time Thais got together and taught them a lesson". 

 

Spring News referred to the DPM and health minister as "Sia Noo" in their headline.

 

"Sia" refers to a wealthy businessman and "noo" is the Thai word for a rat.

 

Anutin also assured the public that Thai medications were effective, still in adequate supply and that the government is in control of the situation.

Maybe we would have masks if he didn't give them away on the street. 

 

At least this country continues to be entertaining. Even tho that's the only thing these guys provide.

We would have everything here to produces millions of masks a day, but instead of this the hisos sell off the rubber and garment to china and thais are suffering as the thai supply chain for masks depends on china for raw materials, materials that thailand has themselves - in theory.

In the meantime, the WHO and many CDCs or their equivalents around the world keep announcing that such masks as he proposes people should make at home, have announced many times that they are totally useless against this or any other virus and all forms of pollution.  Just to start, they do not fit the face as do N95 masks.  Also, Thailand still insists that the Chinese, Indians, etc can fly in and out willy-nilly when many countries have banned flight into and out of those countries because of the ongoing transportation of the virus.  To date some 10,000 flights have been cancelled worldwide because of the possibility of the virus being transported from locations where it exists.  For one, I will not fly back to Thailand from Canada as I have to change planes, and spend time in different airports, in such countries as China, Hong Kong, Korea or Japan.

You could use hot melt glue to affix rubber bands to a sanitary napkin as an easy way to make masks. Then at that time of month the Girl's can still put them to use.

His earlier news release was completely different to this. The man seems almost bipolar.

I hoarded masks over a month ago and really don't care if some peoples start making their own potentially innefective masks.

You could fly to Scotland, where there is a proposal to make sanitary towels free, pick up a whole lot and bring back here.

I've always thought that the so called 'masks' they've  been wearing was just that. Cutted to half the thickness to help inhalation.
