Hailstorm in Khon Kaen: Looks like a hurricane hit a restaurant!

Footage posted on Facebook of a summer storm that hit Khon Kaen yesterday evening featured winds and hail sweeping through a restaurant in the Ban Wa sub-district.

Videos were posted by Wanthawee Phanich (วันทวี พาณิชย์) and a compilation was done by Thai Rath.

Thai Rath showed the scene in the restaurant and videos of people in cars and the aftermath of the damage caused.

The scene in the restaurant resembled a hurricane sweeping through that part of the north eastern Thai province around 5 pm Wednesday.

One man in a car commented on the size of the "luuk hep" or hailstones.

I heard from a friend in Laos that his neighbour's roof flew away. Seems like a pretty serious storm. Hope not too much damage to people and property. This year seems pretty f##ked in many regards.

Badly needed precipitation but not the form that people where looking for.

Summer storms happen every year in this region, nothing unusual, tend to be quite isolated so nobody bothers to prepare!

Here in Alberta Canada it's certainly nothing new. Hailstones leave big dents all over the vehicles parked outside. Not only that but try walking outside when that's going on. It hurts and you find cover ASAP.

I remember on 2 occasions in Canberra many years ago when, after long months of drought and the air filled with dust, rain fell as mud - thick & sticky. Cars outside were covered in it and you had to wash the windows carefully because there was no way you could see through the windscreen.

Ho Hum.  Just another day in Melbourne.

yes... and trying to watch 'that' video down here - I needed to go a VPN to do it!

Same on Tuesday afternoon in Udon Thani. Along the highway several billboards collapsed and trees falling on the street.

As usual, storms and high winds were forecast.... but no-one has the intelligence to take light objects inside, to minimise the damage from flying objects?

The restaurant probably just had the first deep clean in years!

Thailand has summer storms every year. Who would have thought it?

Stupid people build flimsy structures not strong enough to withstand minor storms. Who would have thought it?
