Thailand reports four new coronavirus cases - including Italian tourist - total 47

According to John Hopkins site, once a country hits 80-100 confirmed case, it looks like it doubles every 4 days until around 5000 cases and then it tapers off slightly as it continues to rise.

Thailand has not yet, (at least not yet reported), made it to the point where it quickly ramps up in number of cases. But seems to be only a matter of time now, the Genie is Out of the Bottle.

I was just taking the pi$$ as I know the vaccine is at least 12 months away, as for self quarantining, wasn't joking, no Covid-19, but safer indoors than out at the moment, although we are looking to make a dash for some remote island away from the populous next month before Songkran while everyone spreads the love, returning just after, as for the kids returning to school in May, if anyone has it, the kids will have the year or longer off, or until a vaccine is released.

I have been looking for a website with lots of experts on the issue of Corona or Covid-19, but I had little luck to be honest.

If each of them arrived by air and terminated in Thailand what if anything will be done to contact probably hundreds of other visitors who might have the virus?  nothing I guess

they report the Italian being detected in Chonburi which likely means Pattaya, so this person had already left the airport and travelled to his destination and perhaps even reported himself to hospital after feeling ill - who was he in contact with ?

Seeing as only China has reached 5000 cases so far this conclusion of tapering is a bit of a reach! The graph will reach millions in some countries, I am willing to bet

But they still try to hide the cases to show how safe Thailand is! Border closure is not about stopping the virus it is about containing whats already in the country and watching for a period of time to ensure that it is contained.. Open borders .... might as well have the government proclaim loud and clear.... Tourism and baht over virus all day and every day....if you die then your fault for coming to LOS

Just reported on the Aussie news an 81 yr old who came in from Thailand has tested positive for the virus

To contain an outbreak you have to be able to trace and track as infections arrive.  If you close the borders people will make it into the country overland typically without entering legally.  Thais that were returning home would fly into Cambodia, or others that have to be here for business purpose,  would then cross the border on land as a 'day trip' by boat avoiding the immigration police (or other ways such as paying off immigration).  Since they are not entering legally, there would be no record, they would not report any hint of an infection and you would have a harder time tracking and tracing (actually it would be impossible).  Viruses do not respect borders, and there are many ways to enter a closed border through other means.  You just have to measure the black market trade etc. to realize how large the back channels are.   Additionally if the R0 (virus doubling time) is around 6.4 days, the existing infections that are not currently reported would still grow rapidly over time.   People would even have less respect for authority (if that is possible) so if you were here legally, but became infected, the last thing you would do (other than dying) is report it to authorities since you would not know what the disposition would after you had medical treatment.

Now that sufficient "noise" is being created, by other countries rising number of cases ("masking" Thailand), expect to see more confirmed cases/deaths owned up to.

But then you should ban them forever.

For example there are 130 confirmed deaths related to influenza in Germany this flu season already. And 0 deaths related to COVID 19

So far I think the measures are appropriate.

 

I hope the people will treat me nice when I come to Thailand next week.
