Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit

The government plans to give away 30 million reusable cloth masks to 10 million people or three per person, said Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit today (March 5) after a meeting with related parties on ways to solve the problem of supply shortage amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak.

Suriya said he had asked for collaboration from the Federation of Thai Industries' Textile Industry Club to produce 30 million standard washable cloth masks for a give-away to 10 million people, or three masks per person.

The handout will focus on densely- populated major cities, including Bangkok.

The government will subsidise production cost and Industry Ministry will propose the plan to the Cabinet next week. It plans to hand out 300,000 masks daily.

Reusable?

Hmmm.

Yes, that is right.  At the end of the day you urinate on the mask and hang it out to dry.  The next day you wear the mask and when coming in contact with the virus the virus thinks it's at the wrong part of your body to enter your lungs and it moves away!

This is really insane. It is already proven these masks do not work and Anutin already stated wearing one is not necessary yet here we are about to give out 30 million. What about another 37 million ?

but we know these masks are of little use unless you have the virus

No, they are not, if you are nearby a person there have the virus and that person sneeze, a surgeon mask will help protect you.  But you cannot use the same mask several times.

Are these masks rapped in plastic bags?  Are the masks themselves made of plastic or are the eco friendly?  There is going to be a lot of pollution from millions of used face masks.

But, its OK, they stopped giving out plastic bags in supermarkets.

This is South Korea’s new attempt at selling face mask in a fair manner(doubt anything like this will work in LOS)

The last digit of your birth year will decided your day.

If it ends with either 1 or 6, you can buy masks on Mondays.
Those ending in 2 or 7 can buy on Tuesdays; 3 or 8 on Wednesdays,… 4 or 9 on Thursdays and those with years ending in 5 or 0 can buy their masks on Fridays.
People unable to purchase masks during the week can do so at the weekend.

The price of the masks is fixed at 1-thousand 5-hundred Korean won or roughly one U.S. dollar per mask.
