One of the group had been in contact with someone from Hong Kong who has since left Thailand

adding that a tourist from Hong Kong had been the source of the infection

really?  did they actually track down the hong kong someone to confirm they had the virus?

or did they just assume "it must have come from the chinese tourist," and then ended their search for the source?

That's what the German government says. Lets get over it quickly, let's gt 70 % people immunised. Better spend the money and help those who need help.

How did the German government immunise 70% of the people when there is no vaccine for this particular virus?

That would not only be an act of benevolence, but it would show that they actually cared about the masses. The lives, well being, and safety of the masses are only a consideration, as far as how it might impact the image of the nation, and the fortune the army makes off of tourism. It ends there. South Korea has a real, and competent government.

How does the army make a fortune off tourism? Day tours of the barracks must be popular with overseas visitors.

The epidemic is shooting up in Northern Europe very fast and guess what, those countries are now at the Coronavirus optimum survival temperature zone of 5-15 Celcius.

did you read the article?  it merely reprints what reuters said that "thai authorities said."

thus far, there has been no reporting that an infected hong kong tourist returned to hong kong and was confirmed to have the virus.  nothing but a statement by "thai authorities" blaming a foreigner.  you'd think if true, they'd track him down and test him.

and now perhaps there's a potential source(s) of infection running around bangkok being ignored.

Reports where?

I read it on Zero Hedge blog then on the Daily Mail website. A team of Chinese scientists used a bus with cameras on board to identify everyone, where they were seated, etc. The guy with the virus passed it on to several passengers who were in his own airspace, he never touched them. The conclusion is that the virus is transmitted airborne. So the poster wasn’t posting an urban myth.

Yet the Australian F1 this weekend is going ahead !! 100,000 fans in attendance....

Is the rest of the world over reacting or are F1 just trying to limit financial losses by running this race ??

F1 was never known for ethics or social responsibility. Look at who its  biggest financial  interests are.

In the report by Daily News, there were no details as to the exact location in Thonglor

In more civilised societies, the place would have been named, contact tracing is carried out immediately and everyone who has been to the venue will be asked to be in self-quarantine. But this is Thailand. So greed overrides all considerations, even if public safety and health is at stake. And only 70 cases with this indifferent attitude and all the faffing about? You guys are really doing a fantastic job! You should share your best practices with your neighbours Malaysia and Singapore.

You guys dont get it. These 11 people probably spent days/weeks since getting infected in BKK. They would have visited more than 1 place. There are probably lots of infected places, not just that one spot. There are probably others without symptoms that have already been infected.

Avoiding that 1 bar isn't going to do much

I saw this too, and it was around 4.2 metres away or something?

Elbow works fairly well:

Couldn't disagree. Already knew that but enjoyed the Mythbuster show.

Now, beside washing your hand they should write, and teach on school : Wash your hand and elbows thoroughly with soap (and alcohol).

I have been warning many that the stupid amongst us will be the ones who spread this out of control.

I present .... Stupid on steroids, and notice no face masks worn.

I'm not sure how this indicates "stupid." Most common masks are not effective in stopping a person from getting the virus. These masks are also hard to come by. The masks that do prevent an individual from catching the virus are more expensive and may also be hard to find.

In addition, wearing a mask all the time becomes boring...

That's the current situation in Udon Thani province:

Test done / Waiting for results = 103 Udon Thani / Amphur Phen 53 / Bandung 15 / Ban Phue 45 / Thungfon 45 / Nong Han 52 / Chaiwan 25 / Wang Sam Mo 29 / Si Trat 12 / Nong Saat 20 / Kumphwapi / 28.

What frustrates me most is no disinfection spray to buy.

Huh?  You can't find sanitizers?

Make your own.  2/3 91% alcohol to 1/3 aloe vera gel for hand sanitizer.  Final solution needs to be 70%+ alcohol.

Spray sanitizer: bleach+water.

Area surfaces: 1/2cup to gallon water

Food surfaces: 2 teaspoons to gallon water

it is a waste of time indeed . you can't protect yourself from this virus.

it is all nonsense of the WHO and idiot doctors who think that the

world is their laboratory.

you can sanitise busses and streets, you can't wipe out subway railings and

hope it will "kill the virus". those are mostly useless desperate acts.

this virus will spread around until it disapears. no mask and no quarantine will help.

Not true.  In this graph which I posted in another thread you can see how Singapore and Hong Kong with early, effective containment measures, especially social distancing, reduced the rate of spread of the virus.  By avoiding overwhelming the healthcare system, the number of deaths has been reduced.  Wuhan delayed such measures for six weeks and paid a big price, while Chongqing took the necessary steps in the first week and also kept the death count low.

Thailand should quarantine everything right now, before the virus explodes.  But maybe the Thai government's measures are effective, since the virus hasn't exploded yet.  Hard to say.  But containment works if started early enough.

A graphic with no description

Indeed and that was my whole point, the Hong Kong press was just regurgitating what what was reported from Thailand.

This guy seems to know what he is talking about and also confirm it's mainly transmitted via breathing (airborne?).
