Pattaya baht buses are obviously rolling dens of potential Covid-19 transmission

I went to a restaurant the other day and there was a very noisy group in there and I immediately feared they were Chinese. I heard the Thai and relaxed. I don't use baht uses anyhow. I cancelled a night out for Wednesday!

No.

It is officially a pandemic now.

That's about the global situation and potential situation.

Look up the definition if you're confused.

Meaning nations as well as individuals must take actions or worse case scenarios are likely.

As far as the current official numbers for Thailand does anyone actually believe them?

As we see in some other countries already when the cases increase exponentially and that can start with one case, then things get really serious really fast.

Don't limit yourself to the infection capital. There are many places/cities in Thailand that use songtaews as public transport.

Yeah but l like to keep things local here on the Pattaya forum.

Do people agree with me that the city should start a formal program of disinfecting the baht buses?

The baht buses are open air.....nothing to worry about......I would be much more worried about 7-11s,  restaurants, bars, grocery stores, buses, airplanes....

MPs, short time rooms etc etc

70 people infected out of a population of 69 million people.  Pandemic has not reached Thailand yet IMO

Grocery stores, malls, restaurants would be more of a concern to me.

Good advice on cleanliness, washing hands

Peace

How do you know the number is really 70? And if accurate, remember that Northern Italy and South Korea had much less cases a month ago.

An American specialist in infectious diseases has reportedly said that the virus is being breathed in, rather than being transmitted from hand to face, on most occasions. He was interviewed on the Joe Rogan experience. He reportedly said that N95 masks can be effective but the others don’t offer much protection.

For older people the key is to avoid getting it, because if you do and it causes pneumonia, you will not be cared for. In Italy they are so overwhelmed that they are not intubating people over 60, and people with a poor health history. So take this seriously, it is not just a flu.

They are open air true but that won't help you if you are crammed right next to an infected person and he sprays and/or you touch a rail surface that she touched.

If a dude like tom hanks can get it, despite being insulated against

huge crowds with all his $$$$ then it can happen to anyone anywhere

any time.

There is no way to get on a songthaew without gripping the rails.

Wear disposable plastic gloves that food handlers use

in food areas....and change them out regularly.

Good point about gloves. They are probably more effective than masks in this context. However and unfortunately I think there is a social aspect where people accept mask wearing these days but wearing gloves outside of food prep would look kind of crazy.

How about those condiment/silverware corners in the food court where you go and get your spoon/fork/chopstick. It's still bare-hand communal sharing, even though you could dip the utensils into the hot water pot afterward, but your hands are already contaminated. Maybe it's time to wear gloves like the girls in the food card booth. But then the virus can stick to the gloves surface and so on...like I have mentioned before, the possibilities are endless once you venture outside the house.

you are out there rooting vigorously for Biden so I wouldn't worry about

appearing crazy ????

ok...that was a joke!

I have worn those plastic gloves at the supermarket while picking up

things and carting them....you get some looks but in these times I'd rather

be safe than worry about what people think.

The plastic gloves I referenced are cheap, come in a box of 500 or so

and not many have figured out their use yet so still freely available.

buy small ziplock bags and carry your own cutlery in them....after finishing wipe them with tissue and

seal them again...until you get back home and wash them.

you will look a bit like Larry David but who cares at this point

Here is the interview you are talking about. In the first 15min he say that mask are useless but about in the middle of the interview he say that N95 works.

Where do you get those? I also buy them regularly but they only come in box 100 at the local pharma. Maybe makro?

If you see obviously sick people either move far away or get off the bus. (That's awkward.)

Why? just ring the bell and get off. They don't know you were intending to go further.

Avoid touching any of the rails on the buses. But sometimes you might need to perhaps for support on getting on and off.

One can not get infected by touching a surface unless your hand is compromised ( if it is, one should be using a plaster on the wound ). Transmission occurs when sticking a finger with a virus on it up one's nose, in one's eye or in a a friendly lady's private bits. Transmission may occur in the mouth, but I'm not sure about that.

Wearing a mask is not going to stop one becoming infected, but infected people should wear one in public.

LOL. Could be reinfected by the first person that gets on after. As much chance, IMO, of getting infected on a baht bus as I have of bedding a superstar. Could happen, but highly unlikely.

same Hua Hin. it is all over social media that young people are jumping on planes to come to Thailand because of low costs now and they think they will not get sick.  many saying if i have to die, i want to die having fun.

this photo i took is from a month ago but is typical of baht bus here now.

second photo is Tamarind Night market packed with people every thurs - sun.

three photo is Baan Khun Por Food Market. again every night so packed it is hard to find a seat and mostly with local Thais and some expats and tourist. all sitting together.

four nights ago i walked into a family mart outside of Hua Hin and it was full of Russians. a big family. that might sound normal in Pattaya but it is a indication of how many tourist are still here and new one arriving all the time.

tourists are not taking this seriously in Thailand. i am reading many posts on other forums asking questions about their vacation plans. which island? bla bla.

Thanks for this nitty-gritty detail (no I'm not being sarcastic!) In other words the virus needs outside transportation to get into the deep recess of the human body where it can attack and ravage - it can't crawl or fly to get in there. In the same token, if it can travel through the nose I'm sure it can travel through the mouth.

Also at this point I still wonder what kind of transmission that might occur while in the toilet.

They won't die...they'll just end up falling ill, making many other people ill, closing down businesses,

straining the health system to breaking point.

Over in Singapore they are floating an idea of cutting back on border controls and focusing

on social curbs within the country. Clearly its all about $$$$ at this point...they have to choose between

letting tourists in and general safety of their people.... looks like the former has won.

Still, you have to wonder who would travel at this point except someone who's sick and wants

a high level of healthcare that SG can offer.....at a high price.

Looks like theyre trying to push a medical tourism angle now.
