. . . and the other thing i really wanted to know is, how would you know that gay guys would love to be around crowboy?

I have a vivid imagination.

He is in decent shape, not too old, has all his hair and all his teeth, and is quite charming. For a Chiang Mai expat, he is quite a catch! :D

You are offering, I take it, an example of just how vivid your imagination is?

I am not sure if I have been insulted here but because I am a nice guy will assume that Rasseru is assuming that me being the Ruggedly Handsome bloke I am I would not appeal to the more refined taste of the average gay guy looking for his own "hansum man".

:o

I've been to a few Chiang Mai expats meetings out of curiosity and boredom mostly. In my experience (3 of the 4 times I went) they did not have the speakers they promised and I was interrogated at two of the meetings as to who I was, was I a member (and why not) and how long have I been here. I'm not making this up!!! This group seems to be more for retired people I would say from 65 up (I don't think they see it that way) and in all honesty I have always felt unwelcome there.

Sorry to hear of your bad experiences at Chiang Mai Expats Club Dr Fisher.

During the time you are referring to (which I can date by the reference to missing speakers) the Club was undergoing a period of change which may account for your poor impression.

Since that period the Club has been working hard to improve for the benefit of both members and guests. The organisers of the club are all volunteers and are dedicated to helping new guests/members find their feet in a new city and meet other people living in Chiang Mai. We have certainly halted all practices of interrogation as the use of electric shock treatment was causing power outages in certain parts of the city.

This year all the advertised speakers have appeared and we have introduced new opportunities for socialising and networking such as the provision of a bar after the meetings.

The Club is certainly not 'mainly for people over 65'. We have members of all age groups and although there is a sizable group over 50 only a small percentage are 65+

The Expats Club has a number of interest groups which meet independently of the bi monthly meetings and cover a wide range of activities from photography to hiking, Thai language to dining out.

Again sorry that you had a bad experience we would certainly not want to feel that anyone felt unwelcome since the whole purpose behind the Club is to help expats in need, to build friendships and to benefit the wider Chiang Mai community.
