National Park of Thailand is closing off all national parks and forest parks to visitors from March 25 onwards until further notice to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

Travellers, booked for accommodations in the parks via its website, can ask for a refund or postponing the arrival dates by presenting proof of booking and room payment.

The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Varawut Silpa-archa said the closure would also allow repairs and maintenance of the sites.

I wanted to climb a mountain this weekend and camp at the top, the national park rangers said that the trail was closed because it is too hot at this time of year.......This is Thailand mate, it's always f'ing hot! Just sheer laziness, I get this all the time. I have now resorted to cutting out bits of white triangle plastic and taking a few nails and hammer to help with the trail direction. If not that many people go up a trail, they can't be bothered to keep it open. The whole point of hiking up a mountain is it is hot, its humid, there are bugs everywhere and it is a massive challenge in Thailand. For the majority of hikers here, a hike up a Thai mountain involves giving all your heavy <deleted> to a Thai local Sherpa and merrily making your way up; only to then have some massive banquet at the top and make noise into the wee hours. Rant over

This should be filed under the topic heading of "As Dumb As A Box Of Hammers."

People wish to leave the confines of their villages and get out in the open air and away for people in order to protect themselves for being exposed to the virus.  But?

<Government>  "Not allowed.  You go to place with fresh air, open spaces - you get virus.  Stay home in cramped village.  We send people from cities to village now. Good for you. Stay in village.  Fresh air, forest, open spaces bad for you"   ????

Problem is that this genius idea will get into multiple peoples head, and they will all head to the national parks. As it happens every weekend..

Stay home means stay home. It doesn't mean go hike in a deserted park.

Actually, I have to agree with this. I have literally stopped going to national parks at weekends and on public holidays at they are usually packed with locals sitting within metres. Hundreds if not thousands.

So, yes, national parks can be another tricky place where Covid may spread.
