Covid 19 Testing in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Thought I would share my experience of a Covid 19 test at Bangkok Hospital. Arrived 3pm today. They have a clinic set up to just manage tests. Only one other patient in the clinic so I was in and out in about an hour including registering as a new patient. I had spoken to Vibhavadi Hospital earlier in the week about their drive through testing and they advised I arrive 6am for the clinic which opens at 8.00 am if I wanted to be sure of being tested as that day they ran out of test kits by 9.00 am. Cost at BKK Hospital with consultation with doctor was 6,500 THB. Results will be given by phone tomorrow. To make things easier they take payment by card at the clinic. When I spoke to BKK before going they advised me that the testing finished at 2pm but when I said I needed testing today she said I could come in up to 6pm. They have maybe 8 nurses standing around so they have the capacity to deal with many patients but only one cleanroom for the test itself.

What happens if the test comes back positive? Are you free to self isolate in your own home?

Yes you are expected to self isolate. But I understand they have a duty to inform the government of the positive test.

If you really feel a need, Bangpo Hospital does a drive-thru for ฿5,400. You need to register via QR code before getting the test.

Bangpo is easy to reach from the MRT Blue Line's "Bangpo" station.

6500! 250 US$.  No thanks

If one has fever, sore throat, runny nose, and/or headaches, should one forego testing because of resentment over $250 ?
