BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired a meeting of the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration, which was attended by Supreme Commander Gen Phornphiphat Benyasri, permanent secretaries responsible for the work of five groups and representatives of relevant agencies, to adjust the work pattern.

The center’s spokesman, Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, said the meeting discussed and prepared a plan for accommodating Thai people who will return from Italy. A charter plane will be used to pick up Thai people in Italy. There will be measures in place to care for them before and after arriving in Thailand, especially accommodation and Fit to Fly medical certificates, that may require a waiver from the deadline of no more than 72 hours, as it may not be issued by a doctor or may take many days to be issued.

Natapanu Nopakun, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), disclosed that there are about 7,000 Thai people in Italy. Most Thais there have gradually returned to Thailand. For Thais in Italy, who wish to return to Thailand, the MFA has coordinated with the Royal Thai Embassy in Rome to conduct a survey and consider the options. The details will be discussed on Monday. Those who wish to return to Thailand can register online to obtain a travel certificate from today.

Christ almighty, this should have been done weeks ago and if the Thais chose to stay in Italy why take them now, makes no sense. It will be impossible to find a doctor available in Italy to do a pre flight CV19 certificate so we will have another wave of infections coming from the most infected country on the planet....

But it's alright for you, a non-Thai, to camp out, dodging the bullet in Thailand?

Who says these Thai citizens chose to stay in Italy any more than the thousands of foreigner tourists queuing up at Immigration office here to get some form of extension, DUE TO THE DWINDLING AMOUNT OF COMMERCIAL FLIGHTS ACROSS THE WORLD, chose to stay in Thailand?

With regard to 'health certificates', read the thread,

Let's all hope the army and police can keep these people contained in a secure location and not have some or all nicking off!

yes ... it sounds like Khun Prayut has this earmarked and under control. He doesn't want any mistakes or thai's going walk about on this one. Good job.

Actually second most, the US has surged to the lead.  Hopefully They treat them all as carriers and contain the hazard. But experience suggests they will screw it up again. I mean someone in charge who got their promotion by cash or family influence rather than competence, what could go wrong.  Yep we are screwed.

Cheers

Important flight due in from Germany early next month.  Passengers from hotel with virus reports.

Let's hope all will undergo voluntary self isolation as an example of responsible behavior.

Did they ever get all of the 18 that absconded from quarantine a short time back, or was that just a set-up rehearsal for those being brought back now?  Just curious.  At least they did manage to get the one who got away a couple of days ago, but that was in the boondocks.

'nuf sed.

Those returning from Korea, held only 5-days, except for those that skipped before the immigration checkpoints at the airport. They better do a better job this time, but I am not holding my breath.
