Americans, Have You Received Your Virus Stimulus Check From Trump Yet?

Recommended Posts

This is what happened to me as regards to the Stimulus Check:

1.       Filed my tax return for 2019 with no tax due, so no direct deposit information required

2.       Tried to access Get My Payment Tool earlier on, to no avail, due to having a foreign address

3.       Finally able to access Get My Payment Tool after many weeks but too late to provide Direct Deposit information because a check was already mailed to my foreign address on April 24th.

4.       Have not received any check or letter so far

5.       Decided to call  1-800-919-9835 at exactly 7 pm which is 7 am in the USA (est) hoping to be the first caller on August 6th

6.       Was able to get someone (very courteous) on the phone immediately and told her my case, but was transferred to another person who seemed to have the right answer

7.       Was told that there’s no other option but to initiate a payment trace which would take 6 weeks to process

8.       Was also told to try calling again before the end of the 6th week (Sept. 17th) to check and see if there’s any result of the trace

9.       Got into Get My Payment Tool 3 (three) days after my call and the site asked for my Bank Account Information which I provided successfully.

10.   Got into Get My Payment Tool again today, August 15th and the result is:

My bank account is US based.

I basically also have the exact same situation as you except that my check's original mailing date was one week later on May 1st.

So in a perfect world, I am hoping I will get a deposit date to my bank account the end of this week..please, please!

Hope all goes well and you get your deposit this week.

SHOCK!! I just went to the get my payment site and there it is as well. Scheduled to be paid Aug. 19th.

Hope yours now shows it as well.

By the way, what group in FB are you talking about? Guess it's all those missing checks in Thailand from April 24th to May 1st. That obviously was a bad batch that was sent. I know there were also some from May 8th and 15th as well but not as many.

14 days is for domestic checks.  It was 9 weeks for overseas at which point I filed the payment trace form 3911--filed by fax and next day status changed to enter bank info..

i called the 800-number via skype on august 10th.  check was scheduled to go out may 15th, received the notice at my china address july 02.  after a short 20-minute wait for an operator, only needed the exact address on the notice as verification.

simple process, answer a few questions as the lady queried the database.  even though my bank info had been entered into the system may 11, they will send out another check, after the trace is complete........in 6-8 weeks.

after one week, no change in the 'get my payment' status.  so add in another 5-6 weeks transit time to china, i might could be seeing a check (or stinkin' debit card!) around election day.

**add**

just saw the posting by @Migz above.  perhaps there is hope that i'll get a change in status to direct deposit next week.

I check the get my payment site once a day between 5pm and 6pm our time.

I checked yesterday and it did not show a payment date, but when I checked today, the payment date was there.

Sorry yours hasn't shown yet, but hopefully it will be there next time you check.

OK.

I haven't been closely following all this drama but I hope I can get some targeted advice.

At first I had a very hard time getting into the My Payment page but found that the check was supposedly mailed in May.

So July 22 I got the letter saying it's coming without check.

Now it's August 17 and still no check so I assume it's fair to assume the check isn't coming by now.

IRS doesn't have my direct deposit info but I did file for 2018 (will file 2019 later) so the direct deposit social security loophole didn't work for me.

So anyway, I'm not really surprised that the check didn't arrive and I understand that last resort it can be requested in the 2020 tax filing.

But if I want to try to get it earlier, based on people's experiences, what can I do now? I don't want to change my address but I could give them a direct deposit U.S. bank if they will accept that instead of sending another check to be lost.

Maybe initiate a trace, so call or fax the form 3911 and/or form 8822.

See Question 51  https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center#issuedbutlost

A trace on an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) follows the same process as a trace on a tax refund. To start a Payment trace:

Call us at 800-919-9835 (you may experience long wait times or recorded help because our staffing is limited)
or

Submit a completed Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund (PDF).

call them or file the 3911 form--that should trigger the site to request your banking info

whoever told u that was wrong--the irs website clearly states to file 3911 or call if u want to report missing stimulus payment

You can tell em that and I was also told that they would not mail out another check to Thailand.  Would have to use Form 8822 change of address. I believe very little on their website as that site from day one does not recognized my details and those details are the same as I give over the phone. The IRS is what is called FUBAR. Btw I will send at some time the 3911 to them. If all else fails I shall file it next tax year.

Unfortunately, nothing will really help you as you can't access the get my payment site in order to insert your bank details even if form 3911 works or when you called originally, they opened it up for you, but you never knew. Hate to hear.

Claiming it on next year's return will not work since a payment was issued to you on 1 May 2020 but got lost in space.  I'm sure the IRS would disallow it on next year's filing since your IRS record will show you were already paid--whether you received/cashed it is another story.

So, since a check has been issued but missing in action you will need to initiate tracer action along with an address change which I think you said you did recently.

This has indeed turned into a PIA for many such as yourself.

I wonder if they will include interest on delayed EIPs?

I filed my 2019 1040 on/about Feb 22 - the IRS said they would be adding interest on refunds owing to lengthy processing delays - and I took a partial refund ($408). When that was deposited it included extra for interest ($412.33). (Somehow my partial refund made into my dirdep even though I dropped a leading zero on my account number, but my EIP didn't make it. Was thinking whoever processed my return corrected it?)

We have to declare the interest on next year's return.

I'm still hoping that the IRS allows claiming of a missing EIP, but can see why they may wish to keep those separated.

Based on a later post I now see that I can't just wait until 2020 IRS filing because I got the letter saying a check was coming to Thailand but no check.

So obviously they mailed a check and it was lost.

So anyway, I see it mentioned to tell them a change of address.

Yes I could give them a U.S. address but then a check would be sent there that I can't use.

So of course I want to give them a U.S. bank account details.

Will they do that in my case, or is my only option a change of address to the U.S.?

Also, when I call them what exactly do I need to have ready?

I assume social security number, Thai address on last return, the income line from my last return, U.S. bank info if they will accept.

But anything else?

Thanks.

No, I haven't gotten mine yet.  Today is still the 18th in the US, so we'll have to wait for another day and see.  Let's keep our fingers crossed!
