interesting thought, I don't see the purpose of this right now - maybe they are planning a mass eviction of dirty foreigners

I think you could be right. April 9 they are locking down Pattaya, only the area containing most of 2,800 foreigners. In Phuket they are locked in too, and now making house to house visits.

Not sure about "stepping over" as more to the point of maybe dictating policy without the interference of someone who has repeatedly voiced his opinion without asking permission. Haven't heard from the overly verbose top green-man recently as a matter of fact. Da*n! Too bad eh?

And posted in the Royal Gazette, that means some serious folks are in the loop and looks like others removed by the sounds of the directive.

Sure but maybe someone doesn't trust the police and/or considers them not capable of the task?

haha, as we saw a) whoever was responsible for authority in the airport; police? immigration? private security firm? clearly either didn't know what they were doing, or couldn't be bothered to do what they were supposed to, or b) the citizens in question had so little respect for those in authority,  or fear of the consequences of their actions, that they did what they wanted. anarchy?

He's the boss. Do you think by putting on a suit makes any difference. This is still the Junta just in disguise. It certainly isn't a democratic nation.

I believe that there is one final individual who has the ability to cement such an order as it is then posted in the Royal Gazette.

Will be quite interesting to see what happens when the dust settles.

It took me a while to figure out his motive but then it clicked ... I can see why our Prime Minister Khun Prayut Chan O Cha is doing this and if you understand his position and thai politics you will figure out that it's a very strategic request.

Good job by Khun Prayut Chan O Cha ....

Oops steady now little P, there is an army commander, correct form is you go through him, not by passing him.

He certainly wont be happy with you, might throw his toys out the pram, and them..... Beware.

 Time for a change ...

Taking control of an airport with no passengers is the ideal job for the Thai army.

Could this be the Thai army equivalent of a non-active post?  Just curious.  The usual and best ploy when attempting a coup is to take control of all forms of communication and transportation.

No need for a coup, the army is already firmly in charge. The constitutional referendum after the last coup and the election that followed were both undemocratic.

The army will keep mismanaging Thailand for as long as they have China's backing.

Should this not be a task for the police?

Not with a general in charge of the country

Count me among this group.  I have no faith; no confidence in RTP.  They are a disgrace to the country and the main reason for so many daily deaths.
