A biker, who tried to evade a police checkpoint in Songkhla province, drowned in a sludge treatment pool while trying to flee.

The man riding a motorcycle encountered a checkpoint on Phonpichai Road at 4am when Hat Yai Police Station personnel were about to leave. He turned around and reportedly continued to ride on the wrong side of the road.

The police decided to chase him down. He rode to the Provincial Waterworks Authority and jumped into a sludge treatment pool but then appeared to have a cramp, according to the police.

He was unable to move in the sludge. The police tried to help him by throwing him a branch but he could not reach it and eventually drowned.

After rescue volunteers pulled him out of the pool, the officers searched for his identification but he had nothing in his wallet and they found out that even the motorcycle was not his.

Police suspect that he might have taken some drugs and panicked when he saw a checkpoint.

His body was sent to Hat Yai Hospital for an autopsy.

There is a subtle difference between a sludge and a slurry pool, but neither are pleasant to end up in.

Let me guess: none of the police men can swim or nobody wanted to get his uniform wet - or both.

If you Google "sludge pool" this article is the first result. As it''s probably just a made up term by this article.

sludge pool is probably exactly what it is, either sewage treatment of water treatment , sludge pond would be a better description -- but fairly lethal what ever you want to call it.

That is definitely "above and beyond".

I can come up with an idea why. You can probably die of just one sip of water in that pool, or if it just touch your skin.

Wasn't Spider-Man created by falling in to a sludge treatment pool?  Or was that The Toxic Avenger?   In any case, I suspect this guy is not actually dead and we will soon be seeing a grossly misshapen individual striking fear into the criminal underworld with his ability to spray raw sewage from his mouth (until now this ability was unique to Nancy Pelosi).

Let me guess....... YOU would be more than willing to let yourself get Ecoli, or worse, or even risk drowning yourself just to apprehend someone?

For all the bar-stool SAS / Seal trained experts mouthing off about what was /wasn't done would have handled this with ease, just a small adventure for them.
