Siam City Cement Pcl today (April 16) announced it is closing its factory in Saraburi province, as demand for cement dwindles during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company’s statement said that its staff realised that the virus outbreak had taken a toll on the business, with cement orders shrinking rapidly. The trend of lower demand is expected to continue, it added.

As such, the company’s team of executives considered there was no other choice but to wind down production and labour hours at its Factory 1 in Saraburi from May 1.

The company is seeking to reduce the impact on employees by absorbing them into the workforce at its other plants or letting them leave by mutual consent.
