Popular Post BigStar
Trip report re: getting my new 1-year retirement extension. Yesterday stopped by the bank to update the passbook and get the standard letter. (No 12 mos. letter.) Bank made a copy of the final passbook page for me. Took about 15 - 20 min. Arrived at the IO around 1:15. No lines, relatively deserted. Got the temperature check, a “checked” stamp on my arm, and the hand sanitizer. Got a number. Sat 5 min at desk #8 while the IO guy finished up some papers and hit my number. He then spent an intense 5 min checking over all my papers—thoroughly, but it took little time because they were all neatly typed, signed, and my phone# preprinted. That included the Terms and Conditions sheet and the Overstay Penalties sheet. I used copies of my “useless” yellow book as proof of address. It obviously helped immensely that I wore trousers, a nice golf shirt, and expensive trainers. (Just threw that in to p**s off the cargo shorts/checked short sleeve shirt/sandals brigade.) He checked the copies of the bank book for the previous year to see that the deposit requirements had been met. Funny question was that he asked me if I’d come back 3 mos. after the last extension to show my bank book. Assured him “Yes, I showed you.” Ha! They have no record. ???? But he didn’t give me any 90-day form this time, so I think they’ve dropped that requirement. He took my pic via a mobile phone (that’s new) (oh--without mask, for you pedants) and after I paid the B1900 he gave me the numbered ticket to pick up my passport today after 2 PM. No speedup there. Went back today. Pro tip: display your ticket at the door. Then you get the temp check but no “checked” stamp and no hand sanitizer. IO took my number at the counter immediately and handed me my passport--didn't take my photo (the barriers, I suppose). Took about 15 sec if that. As I passed by on the way out, the initial IO happened to look up, and I made it a point to give him a respectful wai, which he returned. I once saw him and the lady IO beside him abused terribly by a crazy farang who should have been arrested and deported IMO. Being on the front line ain’t easy; be nice to counter the impression given by idiots they have to deal with. (Unless of course you’re one of them, in which case try to stop acting like an idiot.) Well, it was all quite pleasant and set a new speed record for extension turnaround. Every cloud has a silver lining, eh. BUT it was sad to see how deserted Pattaya is at present. Normally I’d stop in somewhere for a cool one with visuals, maybe have laugh with Miss YoYO if she's around. Next year, I hope. Popular Post BestB
So how exactly do you know wearing trousers over cargo shorts made any difference and what is expansive trainers? Was it 299 baht pair? 5

Popular Post Bob12345
Pro-tip 2: dont wash your arm and you show them the "checked" stamp of the day before. I did the same, saved me 15 seconds. Only downside was i went in on Friday and came back on Monday, but because everyone wears facemasks nobody noticed i hadnt showered over the weekend.
Jaxxper
Good feedback. Thanks for taking the time to post. Interesting because next week I’ve got to get my application in. Again, thanks for the feedback.
couchpotato
@BigStar Thank you for the great report. As your extension went so well and if you have time, could you list exactly what documents you presented to the IO. In these troubling times it would help immensely to have an up to list for Retirement extension at Jomtien. (also did they ask for TM30). Thanks again.
Stevemercer
Yes, it is good service everywhere now. I went to the Government hospital for my regular 3 month eye (glaucoma) check and to pick up new drops. Normally there are a hundred people and a wait of 2 - 4 hours. I was the only one who turned up! The doctors and nurses weren't busy and it was a thorough check-up. Normally they only give me 3 months prescription medicines, but this time they gave me 6 months. Splendid service. But I do wonder about all the normal Thai people with regular appointments. If they don't renew their medicines then they may be risking blindness or other symptoms. Max69xl
Sorry to make you disappointed, but my personal record and "maybe" Jomtien Immigration record for an extension based on retirement is 1 min waiting at desk 8 and 3 min total sitting down until I got the number tag for the passport pickup next day. This was last year on a Thursday late May 1pm. When I stood up and checked my phone it said 1:04pm. I have done this a few times and my papers were in order. The longest time at desk 8 is 6-7 min. Same time of the year every time. Always after lunch on a Thursday.

The two pages can be separate, don't need to be front to back. copies of passport pages, include the visa, extension stamp, entry stamp, and TM.6 departure card proof of address - no map or photo needed standard bank letter to Immigration (B100 at BBL) copy of bank book from last 12 months, first page of course, updated last page. Adds to the paper pile. ???? My goal is try to ensure that I'm not asked for anything further, no copies, no sigs, no numbers, no nothin'. Not that I'd really mind, and I expect something new at any time, but it's playing the game to see if I can do it. I believe the IOs (on this desk, at least) would really prefer to save their time and your time. Criteria for Consideration an application for a stay in the Kingdom - sign w/ phone# The Acknowledgement of Penalties for a Visa Overstay - sign w/ phone# Sign all, careful that the sigs match that on the passport. Well, now, actually I don't own a pair of cargo shorts, but I'm sad for those whose cargo shorts are glued on to the extent that even they do wear trousers, the trousers must be worn over their beloved cargo shorts. Something perverse about that, not to say uncomfortable. Nor do I know what "expansive" trainers are. I can only surmise that you're thinking in terms of your waistline, but I haven't priced those trainers that come in extra wide sizes, if that helps. They are usually pretty efficient at Jomtien. and managing to have everything organized before you go in is not rocket science if you have done at least a few extensions in previous years If there are delays it's usually because you get in a queue and the numbnuts ahead of you is poorly prepared and hands over a wad of paper that looks like the dog had a go at it. 4 hours ago, Gandtee said: At one time at Jomtien, if you handed your extension documents in, in the morning you could collect your passport in the afternoon.
