Covid-19 farce! Governor and cops retreat as villagers say we don't want quarantine facilities here

Farcical scenes developed at a village in the southern Thai province of Phatthalung. 

 

A crowd of more than 200 villagers were blocking the road that led to the Had Thong Resort Hotel.

 

They claimed that the hotel was being used to house returnees from Malaysia that were in quarantine suspected of having the coronavirus. 

 

They didn't want them in Ban Bang Khuang, Pak Phayoon district. 

 

The governor of Phatthalung Kukiat Wongkraphan went to the chaotic scene with a large entourage of local officials and police. 

 

He had a simple message that he attempted to convey. We have changed our plans, we are NOT using the hotel after all.

Nobody appears to have paid the slightest attention to him. 

 

Rather than accept the governor's explanation at face value, scuffles broke out and one local official was pushed in the chest. 

 

Governor Kukiat sounded the retreat shouting the truth about the use of the hotel as he went, blaming those blocking the road that they were acting illegally.

 

Later he said that police video at the scene would soon root out the ringleaders.
