Thai woman involved in viral sex toy video apologises

A Thai woman who seen purportedly playing with a sex toy in a video that went viral on social media has apologised.

 

The unnamed model, who normally works as a ‘pretty’, told police she was paid 11,000 baht to feature in the video.

 

She said the whole thing was staged and there was even a script she had to follow.

 

She assured the police she only ever placed the sex toy on her waist and not anywhere else.

 

She said she didn’t really expect anyone to watch the video, which later went on to be viewed more than 7 million times in less than 24 hours after it was posted online last Friday.

 

The women apologised for her involvement in the video and admitted that her actions may have looked obscene and set a bad example for children.

Hmm, 11,000 baht is an unusual fee. Then I figured it out.

 

Must have been 10,000 baht for the video job and 1,000 baht for 'something else'.

Pornography laws are pretty strict in Thailand believe it or not.

Making porn is a crime. Appearing in porn is a crime. Some of Thailand's laws are kind of "Catch-22" where if someone does anything that can be considered "damaging to Thailand's image" - they can be charged.

Having porn on your personal computer is a crime. Consider this for example.
Many years ago in Pattaya a guy offered a "Beach Road" woman something like 3,000 baht if she would let him film them having sex. She agreed. However, afterwards the guy shorted her (can't remember if he only gave her 1,000 or 2,000 but it was less than had been agreed upon in any case).

She went and got her boyfriend to beat on the foreigner for ripping her off. The police were called and guess who went to jail ? 

That's right. The foreigner. They searched his computer and found the video as well as some others. According to the (Pattaya Mail I think it was), the woman never got charged (even though she admitted to having sex for money and knowing it was being filmed) and apparently the boyfriend never got charged either !

There was a thread on TV about it but it was so long ago it's probably been archived for a decade or more by now.

Have you seen her video? It was not porn by any stretch of the imagination. You could say the orgasm scene from "When Harry met Sally" was porn then.

Oh, there are no real laws here. They’re often enforced selectively. Laws are often interrupted on the whim of a person who doesn’t understand them themselves. That’s why we have vague laws like the computer crimes law. Hell, you can openly advertise illegally-hoarded face masks for sale on FB. That’s not a crime if you know the right people. But heaven forbid you forward this video and point out that this is illegal. Forwarding the video is fine until you point out the fact that the people in the video are breaking the law. 
 

Prosecuting this woman has nothing to do with upholding any form of law and order. It’s about saving face and pretending that a society is deeply conservative and is above seeing sex as fun. Meanwhile, soldiers beat to death a drug suspect.

It's not up to me or a dictionary to define what may be considered "porn" or "damaging to Thailand's image" under Thai laws.
