I have severe pain in my right leg coming right side lower bottom all the way down. Cannot continuously walk for more than 10 minutes.

On medication but have been advised to do MRI scan. Does any one know how much it costa in Pattaya Hospitals and which one is best to go for ? Any advice will appreciated and thanking in advance.

MRI costs vary by location on the body and whether or not contrast material is used.

From what I gather is your problem you likely need an MRI of lumbar spine without contrast.

In Pattaya this will cost you 10 - 21K plus a doctors fee as you'll have to see a doctor first to order it.

In Bangkok you can get it done for under 10K at an imaging center, there is a branch in Bang Na. See thread below.

Regardless once done, you need to bring it  to a good spine specialist, pay no attention to the report that comes with the MRI (neither will the specialist).  And for that you need to go to Bangkok, I highly recommend Prof. Wicharn at BNH Hospital or Bangkok Christian Hosp. The latter is less expensive but he is there only once a week

So you may as well get the MRO done in Bangkok as well, do it all in one trip

I would suggest you go to the hospital in Bang Saen, even if it means getting a taxi as it could well pay off in the end. It is the University teaching hospital and very good and government prices. I have a copy of the government price list, a bit difficult to interpret as it is in Thai but as far as I can make out prices for MRI of the spine and pelvic areas range from 5 to 15 K depending on how much they do.

I go there and last year they opened a new building and transferred the outpatients, the old outpatients area was converted to a fairly comprehensive physio dept.

You may well have trapped the sciatic nerve, I had that in 2013 and had to have physio for a couple of months, took about 6 months to recover and was left with dropfoot.

Hope it is not as bad as that and there is only one way to find out.

Had one done at a private MRI business on Ratchada in BKK 5 years ago - 13,000.

Has one done at Samitivej hospital 2 years ago - 16,000.

The Ratchada business was using older equipment with lower resolutions.

Samitivej was using the latest equipment with very high resolutions.

Bangkok Pattaya - 21k plus doctors fee

PIH - no have

Phyathai at Sriracha - 9k plus doctors fee (about 1500 inc their "admin fee".....). I did see one of their specialists and can give you details if you want to follow up.

@John9 Sorry just checked Gavin's original email reply and that was actually 9,800 plus for the MRI - remember however this was for a knee/leg.

The specialist knee doctors charge for my visit (no MRI) was actually only 700 baht, 420 baht "nursing/admin" and 450 for an X Ray. The doctor spoke very good English and did not try to push any particular course of treatment.

Personally in your shoes I would go with the recommendation of @Sheryl above. Best of luck.
