Laptop sign on

Featured Replies

Until recently when I switched on my Dell laptop with Windows 10, it would automatically sign on.

Now it asks if I wish to sign on using my Microsoft or Dell  username and with a password or pin.

Any ideas on how I can revert back to how things were.

Google first hit:

Right-click the Start button and select Run from the hidden quick access menu, or use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key+R to bring up the Run dialog.
Now Then Type: netplwiz and hit Enter or click OK.
Uncheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer and click OK.

That said my computer used to request name about every 6th day or so with old HDD - since change to SSD have not had any such request.

I did as you suggested but it was already unchecked. Could it be that Dell also has to be unchecked and if so how.

That would appear to indicate it is a Dell software issue but have no idea where to look as do not have.  Probably best to search using Google and if no luck ask Dell.

If you don't want the security of signing in with a 4 digit pin, you can change it. Go to "settings", click on "account", on next screen: click on "sign-in options", on next screen: scroll down to "Require sign-in" and change to never.

"account" does not appear on next screen

It is on the main settings page - just scroll down and click on it.

Ok Just tried that and it is still asking for my pin no before it will boot up

I suspect that only negates sign on after a timeout - would still have to sign on when booting.  But believe there are other work arounds for that:

I then went on to the Automatically Sign In page where I entered my details and so far so go.
