ukrules
I've got a good idea what will happen here. Alcohol will remain banned until the pubs open up because many people will just use the restaurants to go drinking in crowds, big crowds.

Food isnt banned as it is a necessity of life. Communal eating is not. because they can't enforce anything they are totally clueless - road safety is a fine example - ban the sale of fuel would be the only answer they could come up with because they can't enforce laws 15

GreasyFingers
I will need to get the calculator out now. Did not believe the wife when she said it was to be banned for another month, but the sweet little thing went out and bought 4 slabs for me yesterday. Now how long will that last? 1

I actually saw before that they were saying if restaurants opened they would not be allowed to sell alcohol. Yesterday maybe. It was then I knew the empty heads would extend the alcohol ban. ThailandRyan
Lets see if this thread can eclipse the other one discussing Alcohol sales banned which has gone past 450 posts in 5 hours....Gotta love when the government becomes unpopular even more with not just the expats but the population as well. Reminds me of a role reversal : Now Kids are Telling there Parents what they can and can not do.... 1

Solution: Sporadically enforced Traffic rules. 56 Covid19 deaths Solution: Ban Alcohol because of social gatherings (meanwhile opening wetmartkets, barbers, salons). 10 1
Popular Post potless
With millions of people having little or no money/food, my suspicion is that the real reason for an alcohol ban is a fear of civil unrest/disobedience. Government scared of drunken mobs taking to the streets and rioting. Just a guess of course. 11

If they regularly ban alcohol, then there is obviously an alcoholism problem in the country. Are you for real? Regularly ban alcohol...that is traditionally for Royal or Buddhist related celebration days. Ignorance is bliss, as they say but stupid can't be excused. Throughout this entire alcohol ban debacle, all of the holier than thou, puritan perfect sons of <deleted> have been demeaning and belittling people that have an addiction. It is more than that. Beer has a limited shelf life. The companies had no warning of this happening and will have to throw out weeks of production. Then once sales are allowed again there will be a gap between production beginning and the beer actually getting to the stores. If you include the farmers supplying the produce and the lost taxes involved it is a lot of money wasted on something that they have very little proof will achieve anything. Sounds like something only soldiers could come up with. Prohibition has never worked anywhere and to think that Thailand with rampant corruption can pull it off is crazy. There is alot of money to be made by criminals on illegal production. I'm sure the Thai mafia are really happy. We all know the stories about prohibition in USA. It tastes great. It is 100 years and 3 months ago that Prohibition started in the US. Hopefully everyone can have a drink to celebrate that the Thai government has learned nothing in this time. I have just opened the third bottle of the case of Chang I bought today and happy to toast this re-enactment of history.

I served my country in a theatre of war and I take exception to you thinking that you know anything about soldiers. You probably don't have any knowledge about beer production, farmers, taxes, corruption, mafia, USA prohibition or how the Thai government operates. However after 3 bottles of Chang you probably know what formaldehyde tastes like and the effect that it has on a simpleton. 3 2 5
