18 months of pandemic pain ahead, warns govt panel

Thailand must plan for another 12 to 18 months of serious impacts from Covid-19, a government advisory panel investigating the pandemic’s consequences has concluded.

After assessing Public Health Ministry data, the advisory committee on the social and economic impacts of the pandemic agreed the outbreak will have serious long-term consequences for health, the economy and society.

As such, a plan was needed to handle the impacts of Covid-19 up until December 2021, committee chief Prof Dr Jaras Suwanwayla told the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), the government’s thinktank.

Jaras said that aside from government remedial measures, help and cooperation from both the private and civil sectors was required to overcome the effects of the virus crisis.

His committee is currently gathering information to draw up the plan, which will be proposed to the government as a matter of urgency within three months. The advisory panel will hear from the Public Health Ministry on Monday (May 11).

The panel was set up on the Prime Minister’s orders on April 30.

Dr Jaras also admitted he was concerned about the scheduled reopening of malls and other outlets on May 17 as part of gradual easing of the lockdown. He said the reopening was unavoidable but had to proceed with extreme caution to avoid sparking a second-phase outbreak that could swamp the health system with a new wave of cases. He noted examples in many countries where the Covid-19 mortality rate is as high as 10-20 percent.

He did not elaborate 10-20 percent of what? the whole population or the number of people who got infected, in any case, the back to normal can be done wisely and with care mindful not to implode the fragile economy  but if experience taught me anything living in this country is to expect thing to be done half baked or over kill...

Australia are saying that the quicker people sign up to be tracked, the sooner restrictions will be relaxed.

Singapore are trying the same with the added bonus of dongles for people, without smartphones, to carry when out.

Anyone who still thinks governments aren't using this virus as an excuse to expand control really needs to open their eyes....

The 18 months have not even started, when the green flag is shown ,and that will not be so for years to come, only then can people come out of the dark.

Years of this misery in store

Yet those same people that scream about Government control and spying on citizens.....are constantly on Facebook 24/7....that's been the biggest con of this century yet

Hmmm... But I distinctly remember a certain minister of tourism and sports blaring in March that "the hot weather in May is going to blow away the virus" and that by June everything is going to be back to normal, including foreign tourists returning in droves, almost falling over one another just to get into the country.

Well, one third of May is over. It's hot. And it's getting hotter. Only... no "blowing away" has occurred so far.

As if we hadn't known. [sigh]

Some people really never -- never! -- should open their mouths. Ever.

Get those borders open and let in a swag of Chinese tourists, that will deflect attention and put money in pockets, nevermind, no problem, smile (Mai phen rai, Mai mee phen ha, Yim noi!) ???? ???? ????

Not to mention those important historical records of how you were clipping your toe nails or were reacting to the latest episode of "The Bachelor". And yes, the world also must be kept abreast of your baby and how much it has grown since the last time you posted a picture of it... about 16 minutes ago.

That's always the Government's plan, scare the population with Project Fear and they will accept any constraints to their freedom. Look at 9/11 in the States.

Fact is, Europeans and Americans are just plain filthy. Maybe Thais are not the best with keeping the trash off the streets and beaches, but at least even the poorest of the poor wear a mask here.

Unlike back home.

What do you expect, 3 months ago we were told to wash our hands...I'm still waiting for them to tell us to shower

My monies on locking up the population until after the virus abandoned next election and getting another term by default

  • Popular Post

It's difficult to reconcile the fact that here in Thailand we have had only 56 Covid19 deaths since February whereas the UK has over 600 deaths per day on a regular basis! Both countries have a similar population of 65 million or so. If the figures are to be believed, Thailand is doing a great job and the UK IS'NT. Thailand's figures do not represent a pandemic, more of an inconvenience. I applaud the Thai government for their response, but surely if they maintain strict immigration checks, the rest of the Thai economy should be allowed to return to normal as soon as possible?

Don't put it past them !!!

They better start planning for a possible civil war or WW 3 instead of giving useless "expert" opinions such as this. And don't come telling me this is not a possibility - who thought this could happen? All well to warn people not to overdue any relaxation but this beats everything again. In the "normal" world governments realize they need to bring back some sort of responsable life because otherwise too many casualties will fall related to stress & boredom, crime and unemployment. This pandemic has a vicious circle otherwise it wouldn't kill so many people worldwide. Unfortunately there are some who see their chance to strenghten their grip on the YES/NO society as we all know Thailand is.

Why don't we all just read what will happen and who wants it to happen ?

You can read it all here from the World Economic Forum:

https://intelligence.weforum.org/topics/a1G0X000006O6EHUA0?tab=publications

Another way would be to simply listen to Bill Gates running through every media outlet

and telling everybody what needs to be done. He is the number one expert on the planet right now

in terms of SPAMdemics and Vaccines.  ... and he bought off pretty much every Government in the World !!!

He also bought most experts, Universities, Pharma Companies involved in Vaccines, Heads of the CDC in the US,

media outlets, newspapers and so on .... obviously also in Thailand because they tell exactly the same lies as he does.

All this is in the public for people who can read.

I also attach the nice little project from the Rockefeller Foundation for people to read ????

Also attached the study from the WHO from Nov 2019 that shows that pretty much all measures implemented

by all Governments now are not working ???? ... this is so funny ????????????

Just as a note for all the people who think the Government in Thailand did a good job:

How it all works:

1. Create a SPAMdemic

2. Be completely ludicrous in your response ... but make sure they are so stupid that people fall for it

3. Let stupid people celebrate yourself as the big savior !!! ... even though your response costs more harm than the SPAMdemic

by breaking the economy, traumatizing millions of people, making millions of people <deleted> poor and losing everything they have,

drive people into suicide, produce strokes and heart attacks through fear and much much more damage

... all you need is a population that is stupid enough to BELIEVE what you say !!! A job well done !!!

Scenarios for the Future ofTechnology and International Development.pdf WHO Study 2019-eng.pdf

Surely the big worry is that once tourism starts up again there's a major risk that the more deadly and aggressive form of the virus that has wrought havoc in Europe and the eastern US might get a foothold in Thailand. People here wouldn't be joking about 50 or 60 deaths then, maybe add three zeros to the number and see if that still makes you smile.

In fact, I'd hazard a guess that, without a vaccine, 18 months is very much the optimistic scenario. A century ago, it took 18 months for the Spanish flu to work its way through the global population to which it had free access. Now that so many countries are trying to isolate themselves, it might still be raging from country to country as they attempt to loosen restrictions, until such time as a vaccine is available, possibly years from now. And if further mutations occur during that period to make it even more dangerous, then all bets are off.

The 18 month time frame seems to be a very common thing these days ????

6+6+6=18  => 666   if you know what it means ????????????   ... but that's all conspiracy nonsense ????

Every country around the world has been using the lockdown time to prepare the health system for a large scale overload.

Surely Thailand did the same?

So very true! They are so manipulative in their attitude towards realty! Only few days ago I read somewhere that the Thai economy was going to contract by 1.5 to 2%!(laughable lies or fake journalism) UK's BOE Governor said it was going to be the worst recession for 300 years!

Greece where I lived before expects 20% contraction.... Thailand will catch up with its own misleading information...

In Italy they found out that 96% of the dead were around 80 years old and had other underlying conditions as well.

In other EU countries they found out that this year they had less total deads than in previous years....

This is the all or nothing game of bill gates.
