Popular Post georgegeorgia
Obviously this doesnt mean anything in Pattaya but i was reading a old isaan forum and a poster who was 82yo and new to Thailand had posted that he was in a Big C up in the deep isaan standing outside a changing room waiting for his Thai GF when he noticed a middleaged farang also standing there...wanting a bit of farang company he approached the lipstick wearing farang and the old guy / poster said hello to him. The farang looked back at him and made a screeching type sound " eeewwww......ewwwww" apparently the old guy was shocked and didnt know what he was on about so said hello again ,before the farang said again. "ewwww....then waving his hands in a get away motion .....with a crunched sour look on his face. like the old guy had done a fart or something....then screeched again... before a Thai guy on his twenties came out of the change rooms and they left apparently still screeching. But it seems even up in isaan or out in the boondocks nowadays they dont even give a head nod to each other , do you care ? do u bother ? what bout if you on the receiving end ,do u acknowledge back ? i was walking with a friend in Udon a few years ago 2016 who owned a gym and he would go out of his way to talk to farangs even in the street because he wanted to give out his business card and discount membership etc, most would unfortanetely ignore him,but it didnt bother him, even sitting at a cafe he would acknowledge some farang near us and create small talk, some would iggnore but one would think in places such as say Khon Kaen or Surasin or boondock country towns farangs would acknowledge each other? maybe as younger generations move in,times change ? Popular Post Tagged
Some really do not want any contact what so ever, but others you see smile, friendly eyes, and approach, so yes say hi, change a few words, but thats it. An ozzy I almost walked down, where none of us did not see each other, almost pushed me away, and said <deleted> off, before I managed to say sorry, so you will meet them all. Mostly it is just a smile and a nod, if not interested in me, Im fine. To many screwed up buttheads everywhere, but in touristplaces, I avoid any contact. There are a lot out there craving friendship and a lot who don’t want anything to do with you. Personally , I will stop and have a chat with a fellow foreigner if the occasion arises but I don’t go seeking them out. Some are just regular guy seeking a drinking buddy and someone to talk in the same language. You can usually tell from their body language who is gonna talk and who is gonna turn away. I have 1 foreigner who I will stop and have a 5 minute chat with very occasionally. I met up with 1 TVF member for a lunch after we had exchanged many messages on PM and he was visiting my city with his wife and friends from his home country. It was great to finally meet the fella ( a very well respected TVF member) and we had a good chat and lunch, but that was it, we have our own lives to lead. Each to their own, in the bigger tourist cities ( BKK, Pattaya or CM ) it’s probably harder to avoid them or easier to find them depending on your outlook .
Popular Post phutoie2
another perennial topic but to be fair to the OP he describes an amusing encounter. Many years past, I was pushing my shopping cart up the aisle in Lotus and an elderly farang turned the corner of the aisle, I could see the look of fear in his face as approaching myself fast, it was too late to do a 360' . He then jumped head first into the nearest chest freezer. 3
Popular Post Crossy
Don't see too many foreigners in our area. Generally, see a farang in Tesco, eye contact, nod and that's it. If they want to speak they will and I'm happy to engage. Of course, if the girls get talking then ...

Popular Post 1FinickyOne
when I was first here in 1974 as a backpacker, if you saw another farang, you both stopped and chatted for a moment or more, maybe exchanging some info. about where to stay or get a good meal... back then a letter took 2 months to USA and a phone call was expensive. We did w/o family and friends back home... Now, young people here have family and friends and info on their telephone, 24/7... they don't know about the old days, so, if an old man approaches them... well it must be because... eeowww, yechhhh - I shudder to think why!! 7 1
Popular Post Moonlover
The few falangs that I do encounter in my rural setting only ever seem to want a drinking partner and as I'm a very light drinker, their company doesn't really suit me. I'll go along with it sometimes, but I avoid making it a habit. When it comes to casual encounters in town, it's usually a nod and a smile. I'm something of a recluse anyway, so I'm content with things as they are.

Popular Post Puchaiyank
I suspect most farangs do not travel thousands of miles to Thailand to meet other farangs...more likely to get away from them... 6 1

CharlieH
Rarely see another Farang out here in the boonies ! Unless its in Makro or Tesco etc on my occasional jaunts into town. If I see one I make eye contact and always nod and smile but never engage them unless they make the move and I am then polite. I get more than enough interaction on this merry-go-round without seeking more ! The virtual version here is easily switched off !
Logosone
I've had the odd friendly chat with a farang, strangely also because of Covid19 along the lines of 'what a total nonsense and overkill this virus paranoia is'. But in the big scheme of things of course you are very careful because it is well known that a good portion of the people who settle in Thailand are a) of a socio-economic class you would normally avoid b) criminals and c) certifiably crazy. Some very odd farang characters in Thailand. 2 1
finnsk
We are all different, also us farrangs in Thailand. The example with the lipstick guy, show the differenses very clear. I would not say hello to a lipstick guy, but I am also very oldfashion and maybe wrong, but I like a beautyfull woman, my own mrs (and all the other beautyfull woman). My interest is not to lipstick guys so why should I make relationship to one ? I like to have friends, I can talk with, have fun with, drink with, to help, get help when needed, but if it shall work there must be some equal way of thinkings. Relationships is not sure to work just because we are farrangs
