My wife is very sick after a stroke and a serious heart attack. I have to renew my marriage Visa extension next week and  up she cannot possibly come with me. She has a medical certificate.  I will have to go without her but go with one of her friends. I cannot take a picture of us outside our house because she cannot walk. I can take one sitting on her bed but she will be lying down and probably asleep.  I can have a picture of myself taken out side . Will I have any problems? It's Hua Hin immigration!

With proof she cannot be with you to do the application. They may give you the statement she has to sign and bring to them to complete the application.

In the immediate aftermath of a stroke, signing anything might be physically impossible. I hope the immigration office shows empathy and common sense.

If this is a renewed marriage extension (you renewed last year) a sensible immigration official ought to be able to help you. The main issue, most likely, is your local office's fear that regional headquarters will not endorse an application that does not tick all the regular boxes.

Is there any chance you could switch to a retirement extension instead? A big advantage is that this does not require endorsement by regional headquarters.

From the conversation regarding a " marriage extension " if one already has one approved just this year going through all the requirements it sounds like you pretty much got to jump through the hoops to have the extension extended each following years which seems to me your wife is got to go down each year to apply with you?

Thanks for the advice. I will try and go in my wheelchair with  my portable oxygen cylinder mask on. And hope for the best.  I can increase the amount to 800k but it wont have been in my account for long enough for a retirement extension

If I'm not mistaken there is a member of TVF 'Colin Neil' who is paraplegic and I believe his IO allow his wife to submit his extension applications each year.

Sorry if I'm not clear about my question?  in my brother situation he just went through the entire process for a marriage for the first time and it was approved he went from retirement to marriage. As you know there is lots of paperwork, picture even agents visiting your house he was wondering you got to go through that stuff each year what is required next year when he does?  He is just running around and alive and get there himself does he have to go through the same process each year or does he just take a picture?  Thanks

Same process every year with the exception of the home visit at most offices.

I was in Trat and my wife was in Chonburi. Mine was a non O Multi Entry with the entry expiring. Before the amnesty my wife rang Chonburi Immigration and told them how it would be hard for us to be together to do an extension and would I need to go to Chonburi-difficult with the virus. They suggested I just go to Trat immigration and tell them my situation and maybe they could call my wife and do the extension without her there. Hopefully the same could be done for you. I hope your wife is better soon.

As with a retirement extension, the same documents must be provided each year.

There are only a couple of extra documents and photo's required for marriage extensions as opposed to retirement extensions, not the lot's of paperwork you suggest.

Disagree with you on this. At Jomtien for example the paperwork (and the questions) are quite extensive for marriage extensions, plus the house visit.

Of coarse if you have your all paperwork/docs in order when applying, then both marriage and retirement processes go fairly smoothly, but your couple of extra documents (and the time it takes to get them together in a package for the IO) is far from the truth.

Of coarse I am talking about doing the extensions yourself and not using an agent.

The senior immigration official has discretion to waive the seasoning requirements (but not the sum itself). Most often, this is taken advantage of only for agent assisted extensions. However, it is not unknown for an immigration office to waive seasoning when convinced you genuinely have the money (not a short term loan). It would not hurt to ask. They might prefer to do this rather than try to get a non standard marriage extension through regional headquarters.

I am not sure a officer at a local office has authority to waive the time the money needs to be in the bank. I think it may be turning a blind eye to non original documents included in the application.

I think the OP will find that the local office will be willing to help him. Approval by the district offices is not related to what he wants to do. They are most interested in the proof that the marriage is real. The longer a couple have been married plays a big part in that part of it.

I sincerely hope you wife's condition improves and my thoughts are with you and surely a medical certificate would suffice and in any case the Lady might not be in any condition to sign anything.
I wish you both much better.
Just a general question and obviously hope it does not in this instance) what would happen if one does does lose a wife, is one still technically married and also looking after children.
Surely not single but maybe revert to the 800k by reason of retirement.
Very good luck on your very very stressful situation, gamini

I'm obviously not making a specific reference to the OP's unfortunate situation but marriages do end if one partner is deceased.  Extensions are not issued on the basis of being being a widower, that status is not being "technically married".

For an individual on a Marriage Extension who's wife passes away, the extension is still valid until its expiry date, not the date the wife passed.   The individual would then have to gain a future extension by an alternative route, i.e. retirement or family if circumstances were applicable.
