Wow, I didn't know they had special rules for latinos, blacks and old people to make getting an ID more difficult.

Given the recent removal of voting stations in minority neighborhoods within Republican contrived states why wouldn’t you expect Republican administrations to

make it harder for minorities to vote or get the newly necessary ID to vote?

Quit gaslighting, wide scale Republican gerrymandering by placing obstacles in the path to minorities voting is a fact.

Democrats, who refused to honor their loss of the 2016 election, worry the Republicans will not honor the result of the 2020 election? Seriously, can this get any more farcical?

Right, and we are doing a great job of isolating the vulnerable, aren't we?

"Nursing home residents account for nearly 1 in 10 of all the coronavirus cases in the United States and more than a quarter of the deaths, according to an Associated Press analysis of government data released Thursday."   https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/nursing-homes-represent-more-1-4-covid-19-deaths-u-n1231547

Add to that the fact that herd immunity is a conjecture, not a proven fact, and the argument for business as usual becomes very weak.

The choice is quite clear, to me at least. Either we bite the bullet, isolate the at risk and carry on, letting the chips fall to gain herd immunity, or we carry on with lockdowns, masks etc and postpone the moment of truth as long as possible, but destroy more lives by economic collapse than Corona would.

At present the winning side is for lockdown and economic collapse, but IMO it is inevitable that eventually reality will force the former option on us.

Or we carry on with limited lockdowns (I can live my life pretty much as normal, excluding trips to bars and restaurants) and wait for a vaccine to be developed.

A vaccine is not certain, but neither is herd immunity.  I think a well researched and tested vaccine has a better chance of providing some immunity than letting everyone get sick and hope the survivors have some immunity.

Topic is "Biden says military would help oust Trump if he loses election but refuses to leave"

Since Trump will win with 320 or more electoral votes and win the popular vote as well, this won't be a problem.

He'll leave in 2025.

In principle you are right. But an old man is still better than a mental manic moron.

I watched the news conference about 6 hours ago, and if Trump is a mental manic moron he certainly hides it well. I looked carefully for signs of mental problems and was unable to find any. Didn't forget the topic, spoke without long gaps, didn't start raving or anything. Also didn't look like collapsing at any time.

Far as I can tell, the attacks on his mental capacity are just made up.

I guess it's a question of the perspective.

Do Trump, Duterte and Bolsonaro think the others are crazy?

I guess from their point of view they are all complete normal...

Ah yes, lets elect the one that can walk down a ramp without looking like he needs a walker.

What the <deleted> happened to the US that it comes down to two very bad candidates for POTUS, AGAIN? If this doesn't prove that the system is broken, nothing will, IMO!

I don't know a lot of people who are happy with the choices, but right now it's a matter of trying to get the country back on track.   So much of the federal government has been gutted and the effects are showing.   The CDC has shown major deficiencies.   The national stockpile was left unattended and the Dept. of State is in tatters.    The country needs someone who can manage and direct the government.   A lot of people seem to think that Biden is the better choice for doing that.   If he wins, I doubt he will run for a 2nd term.

Nobody likes bureaucracy, but it's how any government works.  Bureaucracy is big, it's clumsy it's universally disliked, but it is necessary.   Trump has gutted it and it shows.

Why would they refuse to obey him when he would have no authority anyway? At least get your facts straight.

Memories,  cheap tickets, vacant planes. I was flying to Thailand during teh SARS outbreak, a couple months after jr Bush invaded Iraq, supposedly hunting for weapons  of mass destruction. The country has basically been broke for two decades. They started busting it up in the 90's. BTW. If you haven't seen it check out the HBO interview, the Axios interview. It's a howler, but the truth is the joke's on us.

Indians vs Reds on FOX Sports Asia. I can have my morning coffee, I can drift into a happy nostalgia moment .. and not think about the latest headlines saying, he still does not get it, well he never did.

Less bureaucracy the better IMO. Most, IMO, bureaucrats make up things to justify their existence and well paid jobs, and make my life worse with their ill thought out unnecessary regulations.

I'm happy to see the bureaucracy gutted. Douglas Adams had the best solution.

IMO, it started when JFK got involved with Vietnam. Never ending wars that followed have, IMO, bankrupted the US, and it's only, IMO, because Nixon destroyed gold as required to back a currency that the US can survive on funny money from nothing.

All good then you hit the gold standard thingy. Alarm Bell; No woowoo stuff. I do agree with credo, we have and he has,  gutted our bureaucracy, what was left of it. 90's political you had social fractures,  but before.

Back in 78, I ended up very sick from an overseas trip. I was too young & dumb to know how sick. Went to the public health clinic, Yes they had them back then, cheap and effective work. Next trip I got a full complement of inoculations/vaccination from that clinic. Early 80's BUT I believe Federal funding cut by the end of Ronnie's presidency. Today full vaccination regime plus the testing for bacteria/parasites, plus medication,  (like in 78), easily between 7 and 10K. Part of the right wing gutting of the United States.

The country was already broken, the Wuhan virus just exposed it

Being a republic doesn't preclude majority rule, in fact it requires sovereignty rest with the people.  https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/republic

This single statement exposes your sheer lack of understanding.  Socrates called democracy mob rule.  You're either not an American or you missed U.S. history in school.

I'll rely on good old Wikipedia:

"A democratic republic is a form of government operating on principles adopted from a republic and a democracy. Rather than being a cross between two entirely separate systems, democratic republics may function on principles shared by both republics and democracies."   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_republic

If you do an internet search on "democratic republic" you will find many other sources that say essentially the same thing.  People who insist that "democracy" and "republic" are mutually exclusive expose their "sheer lack of understanding".

I am a U.S. citizen (are you?), I have a reasonable understanding of history, and I defy you to explain how my post that you replied to is wrong.

Well here we are donalds threats to refuse to honor the election become more strident his attempts to cast doubt, voter suppression, delay the mail, cheat and slander become more blatant what’s that tell you now?personally I think lots of folks in the military would be delighted to forcibly eject this grifter from the White House espically because the lowest most junior boot pays more in taxes not to mention all the other failures what a disgrace

Those that don't like it can try to change the constitution. Otherwise it is what it is and no point complaining about it- not going to make any difference, is it?
