With travel slowly resuming in Thailand, domestic travel is trending to nearby destinations. Top domestic destinations from May 12 to June 10 in Thailand include Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phetchaburi, with travel to non-urban destinations comprising 45 per cent of bookings, based on recent booking data. Across other markets in Asia-Pacific, domestic travel is also on the rise, with Airbnb seeing a surge in bookings in the last month in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and Japan. In May 2020, over 60 per cent of all bookings on Airbnb were for listings in non-urban destinations. Between May 18-24, there were more nights booked for domestic travel on Airbnb globally compared to the same period in 2019. From June 5-7, for the first time since February, year-over-year growth in gross booking value (not including cancellations or alterations) has increased for all Airbnb reservations made around the globe. Popular Post spidermike007
Likely due to alot of hotels not being open for business yet. Many hotels I look up on Agoda show as being sold out. Likely due to them being closed. When I do show up at a hotel I am one of very few guests. Domestic travel is definitely not up from last year. AirBNB might be up. But we are talking about something entirely different and the conclusions drawn are inane and false.

Yeah the various ministries will be issuing rosy pronouncements that are amplified by Thai media saying that everything in the Thai economy is now better than before Covid. Then you'll walk down the street, look around for yourself, and shrug. Lipstick on a pig.

How the hell shall this become profitable ? Surprisingly no flight to Germany. Maybe this has been given to Lufthansa ?

Unfortunately for us up here it is supposed to be low, low season but there are people everywhere. The people are okay but the traffic. The little resort alongside us is full tonight where as normally it would be lucky to have one customer.

HaleySabai
The wife took a bus from ChiangMai to khon Kaen for a business meeting last week and it was really tough securing a ticket. The buses run at 50% capacity and the daily schedules are reduced. No flights other than to BKK first then onward, but at a price she wasn't willing to pay. She eventually got there,3-days late and back in a roundabout way. Went into ChiangMai city last night craving some Turkish food but the market I expected to be open by now was still black, oops, I mean closed. The odd massage shop opened but the general atmosphere is grim, hardly any people in the tourist center of town.It will take a good while before a pulse is felt around there even after all the re-opening stages have been completed.
