Japan business travellers first foreigners to be allowed back in Thailand

About 100 businesspeople per day from Japan – the largest foreign investor in Thailand – will be among the first foreigners allowed back into the country as the lockdown eases.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam made the announcement on Wednesday (June 24) after talks with Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) president Atsushi Taketani.

 

The number of hotels acting as alternatives to state quarantine accommodation will also be increased, Wissanu added.

 

The deputy PM said he was collaborating with the Foreign Ministry and related agencies to help foreign business operators in Thailand.

 

Resolutions made would be proposed to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), he added.

 

The Jetro chief also informed him that there were thousands of Japanese businesspeople asking to resume their operations in Thailand. Taketani added that the 900 rooms available as alternative quarantine accommodation might be too few. Wissanu assured him that the number of rooms would be increased as necessary.

 

Wissanu also revealed that special conditions to lure back investors to Thailand were not mentioned in his meeting with Atsushi, despite being previously revealed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

 

“However, this point will be discussed with the Foreign Ministry,” he added.

Pretty sure hi-so Japanese business people wont want to lock themselves up for 14 days in a hotel

If they could choose their own maid service for the 14 days it could be a winner.

I wondered who it would be. So, they have finally decided that the Japanese will be the scapegoat.

 

When there are more cases inside Thailand, most likely after the Koreans and Chinese are allowed back in through 'bubble arrangements' they can naturally blame the Japanese as they came back in first.

 

Japan and China are such great friends and allies with no disputes aren't they?

 

It's a diplomatic setup. Watch and see......

"Alternatives to state quarantine" ? This is completely ridiculous. I have been in Japan for almost 3 months. There are 50 cases a day in Tokyo alone reported lately, obviously about money.

Secondarily keeping Farangs out.

Correct, Japanese figures yesterday 56 infected China 12 & SK 51, looks as though they are starting at the top & working down ..............LOL

Right, i mean its not like they have far more cases in Europe and US then in Japan.

 

Its all a big conspiracy to keep (s)expats out.

As usual it makes no sense, these 3 countries still have problems yet Thailand is willing to gamble health to lure back investors!

Sukhumvit Soi 33 hasn't been a fun place since about 2010, and even back then it was in terminal decline. 

 

Whole lotta fun in the late 90's and early 00's though, I'll give you that. 

 

There were a few sois between Thong Lor and Ekkamai that had Japanese only clubs. Been in a few with Japanese business colleagues. 

 

Sriracha is little Tokyo, loads of Japanese only bars, massage, clubs etc. for those working on the Eastern Seaboard.
