You've been very selective in your reading.

Sars virus died because it was too effective.

And again the old 'blame the media for reporting' line

Your very selective with your reading if you still believe the media "reports"

I thought they just "repeated" what they were told to print?

As the majority of the "media" is owned by the few who want to push the socialist agenda, the "repetition" is slanted to further their agenda. ????

Long gone are the days when we had "reporters who reported truth based facts without a political slant - RIP BBC ????

40,000 new cases in one day. And 46,000 according to worldometer. Those are mind boggling numbers. Americans generally have little in the way of self discipline. And there is a multitude of things that can be done to strengthen the immune system and prevent the contagion, and few of the talking heads are getting anywhere near that topic. Nobody is talking about prevention, through diet, and avoiding processed foods, sugar, fast food or other things that weaken the body.

Why are Americans getting infected at such high rates and why does the nation have a fatality rate of over 5%? Americans are by and large very unhealthy people. Many gorge on fast food, fried food and incredibly toxic diets. Combine that with pre existing diabetes, heart disease, morbid obesity, horrendous leadership, and the lack of self discipline (I do not want to wear a mask, and nobody can make me do it!) and many other factors, and you have a perfect storm that we are now witnessing.

This second economic shutdown is going to be devastating for the US economy, and could very well trigger a great depression.

Spot on.  Sad but true.

Incredible isn't it, barely a mention of "prevention" one could suspect that this is on purpose ????

The biggest social media sites now have algo's to prevent folks posting that Vit C, Zinc, Selenium etc can be used for prevention and treatment, this is considered "fake news" all part of the ongoing "agenda"

They know what's best for us and are just trying to keep us safe! :whistling:

Next they will be suggesting we wear useless masks so we can deprive our bodies of oxygen! - surely not, people would never be so gullible to fall for that nonsense ????

And the fact that is being ignored, is that unless it is an N95 mask, it does little in the way of preventing us from getting sick. Sure, it can stop the spread if you are infected, which is useful. But no talk of Zinc, vitamins, minerals, herbs, diet, etc. Nothing. Such blindness. Such astonishing ignorance and hubris. Such fealty to the CDC, the FDA and Big Pharma.

The US is feels like it is really, really going downhill fast. It is unraveling at the seams. It is Western Rome, in the early 5th century, prior to Alaric marching into town.

Not true at all. There are several epidemiological studies out and they conclude that wearing masks - even cloth masks - is probably the most effective practice you can undertake to stop from contracting Covid-19 and spreading it to others.

It is a shame then that the President of the USA doesn't endorse using masks at all.

I doubt anything like this will happen in Thailand when everything reopens. And I am talking about the rise in cases and nothing to do with the numbers quoted here.

As long as the borders stay close and they don't let anyone in maybe. There might be quite some asymtomatic cases once they go to bars things will change.

Fun to see that also in the US they understand that bars by nature are the most dangerous businesses to open.

False. Scientifically unproven. And common sense defies that logic.

There is not much research on whether cloth masks are effective at preventing the spread of disease. It is unclear whether a cloth mask can protect the wearer or people nearby from contact with virus particles. Scientists don’t know the size of the virus particles that transmit the novel coronavirus, so it’s unclear which types of masks can stop infectious particles from getting through. Very few studies have assessed the use of cloth masks in real-world settings. Studies of influenza and other diseases suggest that, in general, wearing a mask probably doesn’t protect the wearer from getting infected, but it may help prevent the wearer from spreading disease. Scientists are working to learn more about cloth masks and how to improve them.

https://sites.nationalacademies.org/BasedOnScience/do-homemade-cloth-masks-protect-against-the-novel-coronavirus/index.htm

Actually a type of respirator, an N95 mask offers more protection than a surgical mask does because it can filter out both large and small particles when the wearer inhales. As the name indicates, the mask is designed to block 95% of very small particles. Some N95 masks have valves that make them easier to breathe through. With this type of mask, unfiltered air is released when the wearer exhales.

But experts are still mixed on the potential usefulness of non-N95 masks. "To me, it's not harmful to wear these masks, but it doesn't look from this study like there is a whole lot of benefit," Jones said. The sample size for seasonal coronavirus was small, she said, and there was a large amount of non-mask-related variation in how much virus people emitted, particularly given that the majority of samples without masks didn't have detectable coronavirus.

Unfortunately people are not well informed regarding masks, N95 prevents ingress but does little to filter" exhaled breath, this is by design, medical masks work to prevent exhaled breath being contaminated, little in the way of filtering inhaled air, by design, they are both "one way" by design.

Both decrease the percent of oxygen available down to about <~18%, not ideal for long term use or preventing other fungi! growing, the pieces of cloth people wear are a joke! Obviously government has carried out no "safety case" for the effects of mask wearing, nor do they have a disposal system in place for the old toxic ones, but that suits the agenda for now!

This is in the US not Thailand, so no

Get your facts straight, or people assume you are ignorant.

It is obvious that Thailand and other tourist destinations are suffering, and the USA policies are not helping getting tourists back.

Do cases matter, or does actual hospital icu's being overwhelmed and deaths start skyrocketing matter?

Who cares how many cases there are if the strain is now a lot less harmful then before? Everything I've been reading from reputable sources say this is now a lot less virulent then it was back in Feb-Mar.  Just keep the elderly and unhealthy tucked away.  Eventually this will go the way of SARS and MERS and die out.

Media loves to keep stoking the fear fire as it works and gets them that extra bit of ad revenue from extra clicks and extra views.

The majority are 35 and younger! Media reports the facts some like to make them up instead

There are other questions -  not just that one. Why did Governor Abbott ignore the advice experts in the first place? Why did he actually forbid localities from requiring the use of face masks? Because of his willful ignorance, starting up the economy has been put off that much further into the future.

And of course there's the even more important question: why are these judgement being left up to the states? Viruses don't respect borders

Not one single state followed the guidelines.

The conspiracy blaming is sad. Watch, read and listen. Your uninformed and its clear you have no facts.

Pray tell, where are your "facts" coming from?

Just let everybody get Covid-19 and be done with it. Accept that their will be some people with compromised immune systems that are going to die. Mother Nature needs to do a cull once in a while, that's life. What happens if 1% of Texas's already sickly people pass away sooner rather than later? The citizens can not take this type of cure, they'll be even more deaths because of shutting the economy off.

Close the bars and people drink in the parks and streets instead with no social distancing. Apart from locking people in their homes you can't stop people doing what they want to do.

You see the ignorant masks aren't effective posts everywhere on TV. This is why there were 40k new cases in the US yesterday. This is mostly in red states with moronically loyal Trump governors trying to open the economy before it's ready to open. America is screwed because of Trump and his lemmings. The US will be dealing with this forever because of Trump's incredibly inept response. He's history but he's taking half a million people with him.

Thank Buddha I live in Thailand.

My daughter who is in medical field there says exactly this. She realizes that until a vaccine is available America is screwed now as this is the reality.

Yes you can, but your one of those guys that cares only about himself. In parks you can enforce social distancing too.

Have you seen the street/park parties in the UK and the Liverpool fans celebrating? Zero social distancing and police scared to do anything. I'm pretty sure the same is going on in the USA too.
