I'm trying to remember - did the Brexit referendum say ''do you want to leave the EU without any deal'' (or to put it in realistic terms - ''without any idea of where we're going to?'') Because you ar

Brexit is poison - it will never deliver what it promised, even now the brexiters are turning against the brexit they voted for last year.

There were no promises from Brexit, as such. The WA and the EU is poisonous. Brexiteers still want the Brexit they voted for four years ago - they did not vote for individual so-called promises - they voted to get out of the EU.

43% is a landslide now, is it? It seems like everything that casts a negative light on Brexit is renamed, repackaged, repurposed or binned, especially fact. But 43% was not then and never will be a landslide - in a proper democracy it wouldn't even be close to being considered a mandate.

Have you invented that saying "proper democracy"? In a democracy we vote and there will be a majority and there will be a minority, the majority in a fair society usually win. Normally the losers will accept the result, because that is fair and not moan about it for the past 4 years because all that is is being a very undemocratic bad loser.

Maybe the next time we have a vote we should exclude certain classes of the population from voting, maybe only people with a Phd should be allowed and certainly we don't want them northerers from voting, we all know what they are like. Maybe we should ask the voters prior to their entry of the polling booth, ask them, are you going to vote the same way as RR, if not you better leave immediately, we don't want your type in here.

You shouldn't worry about us Irish. We will manage. The UK, on the other hand will be faced with the odd problem or two: e.g. (i) average tariffs on EU food imports would be over 20%, pushing up prices significantly for you; (ii) the UK is now shut out of the Gelileo project and will be pumping one-half a billion into the bankrupt One Web operator ( a Cummings idea); (iii) analysis by Dan Hanson, a UK economist for Bloomberg economics, researched a 200 billion quid cost to the UK, up to Dec 2020.

Then there is the London financial centre - 200 billion a year in trade, 65 billion in tax revenues. I am sure if you keep insulting the EU, that it will bear no grudges when it comes time to decide on London keeping or losing it international bank passporting status.  Half that 200 billion in trade is with the EU.

https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2020/06/uk-bids-for-stake-in-collapsed-satellite-operator-oneweb/

for transparency, here is the text:

Now, The Times has reported that the government may have chosen to pursue a different option, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Chancellor Rishi Sunak agreeing to purchase a 20 per cent stake in satellite operator OneWeb. The Financial Times reports that this will cost approximately £500m of public money, as part of a larger private sector consortium bid.

Number 10 advisor Dominic Cummings is reported to have been “instrumental” in pushing for the bid.

Sounds good - but in this country's electoral system, we are being governed by a party elected by a minority of the electorate.

No one can be 100% certain about the outcome of Brexit, just as no one can be certain of the outcome if you jump in front of a moving number 5 bus, but in both cases you can be reasonably certain the outcome will be bad .

The english language is more than German, last time I looked it was only 35%, but there again I never asked you if you invented the english language, I asked you if you had invented the saying "proper democracy" some people wouldn't know what democracy is if they fell over it.

So which party other than the party that you don't like would you have liked to be in power now, because from where I'm sitting I reckon we have missed a big almighty bullet by Corbyns lot not getting in.

We did not want coronabonds. Now we have coronabonds and the financially irresponsible will borrow on our good name.

We did want want negative interest rates at the ECB so the Italians et all can borrow their brains out. Yet we got negative interest rates.

If Germany controlled the EU how are we being screwed like this constantly?

Under the "control" of Germany, or France,

or the U.K. if they had stayed in the E.U..

Who cares.

It is Belgium which decided/decide, pre and since the E.U., what is best for its citizens.

It may change next year.

If it is the case, I will post here the changes  which occurred in my daily life.

Corbyn's suitability or otherwise is purely your opinion. As it is, I think you are probably correct - but my point is less about the choices offered than about the process itself. 43% of the vote and a majority of 80 is laughable when we talk about democracy. Our system is rigged and we are all losing because of it.

English is most definitely a Germanic language. Of course "Invicta" England was invaded so many times by Romance speaking peoples, Romans, French, particularly 1066 ensured that many Romance words were adopted in the English language.

This long, humiliating, and embarassing history of England being raped, pillaged and forced to speak the language of its conquerors, and thus acquiring many Romance language words, should not detract from the fact that English is a Germanic language however.  In the case of English, it developed from Proto-Germanic, alongside German, Dutch, and some other languages.

Then FORCE those over 18 to vote then, or is that against folks human rights etc, but who knows the EU may enforce that stuff in the future. ????

It's called English, even the USA chose English over German way back when.

It is only rigged because it didn't go your way, but you still havn't answered my question, which party would you like to be in government now, am I correct in saying although you abhor the current government you still think there is no-one else to take the Tories place. In all fairness only a couple of months ago you were extolling the virtues of our very own Rishi Sunak.

The point is not about who chooses or not to vote - it is about the system of voting we use. 100% voter turnout won't make  difference if the system is still gamed.

FPTP is used by only a quarter of countries in the world, mostly those which were part of the British Empire; most countries use some form of PR or another.
