Sukhumvit lane closures

BANGKOK: -- Two lanes on a section of Sukhumvit Road will be shut from today to make room for construction of the Skytrain's extension.

One inbound and one outbound lane of the 500-metre section between sois 62 and 64 will be closed for seven months from 10pm.

U-turns will be allowed at Soi 101 and Soi Piyabutr. On May 5, the U-turn at Soi 101 will be closed and the one at Soi Piyabutr will be expanded to accommodate more cars.

On May 16 a new U-turn will be opened near Soi 62 to accommodate cars from the nearby expressway exit.

Lanes at another section, stretching from Soi 70 to Soi 101, with a new U-turn at Soi 103, will be closed for four months, deputy Bangkok governor Phanich Wikijarkhom said yesterday.

All six traffic lanes between Soi 85 and Soi 89/1 can be used once the construction of the pillars to hold the overhead BTS rail structure has been completed.
