NFL: Trump slams Washington Redskins as team re-evaluates name

There's been a lot of PC stuff on the forum lately - ranging from monkeys to "taking a knee" etc etc.  Some I agree with, some I don't.  The native American issues (particularly Mt. Rushmore) are something that Trump is far too thick skinned to have a clue about, but I do hope they don't re-make Anthony Hopkins' excellent movie, and call it "The world's fastest Honda CBR900RR" - wouldn't be the same.

Indeed, a great movie and typical Kiwi ingenuity at work!

Based on the announcement which included a reference to a resoultion of "trademark" issues, my guess remains "Red Tails".

No clue if Tuskegee University, or the USAF (previously USAAF) or some other entity has some trademark claim?

If done, the it would be awesome if some percentage of team items revenue went to Tuskegee University, or the consortium of HBC's and Tribal Colleges

No brainer - ticks all the boxes.  Haven't seen the movie, but blocking it's use with trademark or copyright issues would not go down well.

Washington owner Dan Snyder told USA Today in 2013 of the “Redskins." “It's that simple. NEVER — you can use caps.”

Tough talk until you bring up the bank account. ???? His team is threatened? Tickets, merch? Let's look into that name change again.

Which is also why I'm against all this PC business. Stand with Black Lives Matter. Take a stand against racism. Advertise in solidarity, throw the BLM logo on it, change those offensive names. It's all talk, and talk is cheap. Remember when Starbucks told their baristas to talk to customers about racism? ????

Really care about blacks and other minorities? How about offering them JOBS? How about opening more positions, instead of all these layoffs? How about raising salaries for those already on the payroll? Oh dear, we're talking about some real money here! Back to taking a knee for that photo op.

Fascinating  how your president manages to keep tabs on all these little details and also on his billions  - in  such a huge country  - ours doesnt know which days it is most of the time !

Don't the Redskins also need to get rid of the "Washington" part too?  He was a slave "owner".

He was indeed. Why is owner in quotes? I get that you were joshing but no the name Washington isn't going away. He is arguably the greatest American ever despite his faults seen through a more modern eye. Also such cases are entirely different than honoring confederate civil war people who were treasonous by definition and fought for a movement based on preserving slavery.

Red Tails is cute but will surely attract the spanking fetishist crowd. After each tails score they would chant thank you sir may I have another.

Honestly I think Warriors is better. You get the double W.

My favorite is probably Americans. They could keep the native American logo with that one and mess with some people's brains.

Oooh you are awful!  It might catch on the same way that crowds react to Aussie rules football umpires signalling a goal.  "How big's your ****!!!"

Didn't know Jimmy Greaves was into Aussie football?

Surely Indiana needs to be re named, along with Sioux falls and scores of other places, can't have the natives being offended. Better than that would be to acknowledge the appalling treatment native Americans met with. Chief Red cloud of the Sioux said it best- the white man made us many promises, but only ever kept one, he promised to take our land, and he took it.

Well you could ask them instead of making it up.

I guess some private individual has, for years, been trademarking many possible team names for the the WFC in anticipation of this change.

Suspect he'll become snyder's third minority partner?

So. The Broncos should change their name too...offensive to wild horses.

The Raiders.......offensive to those who raid.

The Chargers.....well we all know, the Chargers haven't charged anything in years.....

The Sea hawks....man oh man,, the real sea hawks must be in a flap.

Cowboys???? Really?

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Disagree, Trump is pandering to his base and doing whatever he can to distract from the real issues the US is facing.

Normal political behaviour and most politicians do it. Deplorables comes to mind.

Most politicians try to do something about the issues. Trump not, he just ignores or even worse aggravates them.

LOL.

Most politicians try to do something about the issues.

You must think I'm daft enough to believe that. In my experience politicians only do what is going to get them re elected.

If a politician did things for the benefit of the country they'd be statesmen, and there haven't been any of them around for a long while, IMO.

If Trump is reelected his base will never hold him accountable, if he isn't reelected it will be his successor's problem - along with Trump's comments- in both cases, Trump has nothing to lose.

Now the question is, do you?

What about the West Indies?  Most of the population is descended from African slaves or from Spanish, French, British, or Dutch colonists or is of mixed ethnicity.  The indigenous population of the Caribbean are not African Americans.  JGI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigenous_peoples_of_the_Caribbean.  Very interesting - lots of things I didn't know.

OK. Stop slagging off Trump when you quote me, and I won't.

So negativity about Trump will lead to you projecting. Up to you, I will remain factual and post my opinions.
