There are differences between hair of different species of animal and humans.  What works for one does not always work for another.  Many animals have hair that is hollow whereas human hair is not.  The hollow hair helps keep the animal warm in the cold weather and cool in the warm/hot weather.

don't Huskies have blue eyes?  the report said their eyes were gouged out.  perhaps this person is a nutcase with a severe hatred of foreigners , and this action is a result of that hatred.  As a blue eyed westerner I would be quite concerned if i lived in or near that village.  It is a fact that many serial killers begin by killing animals.

we have two near us not chained up but left out all day, they even bark at the rain, at passing cats, people, cars, bikes and at nothing at all.

Near us are two huskies kept in a cage 24hours a day, feel very sorry for them, no room, no exercise. I do not know why they have them.

I can see that happening to 4 on the estate i live, they continually howl in unison from first light, why if not for attention would you keep 4 Huskies locked in a yard?

Why do people pay a fortune for these imported dogs when there are so many street dogs that could be adopted.

 

Not all street dogs are pests or vicious. 

 

Recently I have discovered 2 beautiful and very friendly dogs that seem to have been dumped in our soi. I would love to take them in, but we already have one rescue dog (who by the way loves playing with those 2 dogs).

 

I have also noticed that some many seem to hate Thai dogs, but love the expensive imported ones. I got this idea from the fact that I take my dog for walks and, despite having plastic bags to clean up the mess, many Thais try to stop me from walking in their area whereas they don't mind the people with imported dogs. One lady has 5 dogs- a husky and 4 pugs and she told me that the same Thai people are very friendly to her. (I would hate to think that the problem is racism).

Another dog hater/poisoner? The people that did this don't deserve to die,they deserve to get their asses kicked and placed in jail so they can think for awhile just how disturbed they are. This isn't a child or person they killed, but it still deserves punishment. Too many cowards in the world who take their anger out on animals, women or children because they cannot fight a man.

Especially in that manner. This wasn't a poisoning that kills quick. This person took his anger out in a vicious, cowardly way. If this happened to my dogs and I witnessed it, I wouldn't kill him but permanently damage his ability to walk or hold things.

It can be done, its a matter of exercising the dog, very early in the morning, and/or late in the evening when it is a bit cooler..

I always take my Retriever for a walk before 7am, and again at 6pm, and I also carry a stick, just in case of a pack of dogs are in the vicinity..

Regarding barking, many people leave their untrained dogs outside at night, this is a recipe for the neighbours to have sleepless nights.and in all probability incur the wrath at a later date.

 

I always keep my dog inside at night, she will only bark, if someone trys to get access to our property.

Its not the heat that is the issue, it's packs of soi dogs, it's ticks and other dangers on land that could be good for dogs, even snakes, lizards, poisonous toads and centipedes that litter waste land.   It's the prevalence of Parvo virus on untreated land  and other viruses carried by wild dogs and cats. The tropics is no place for a domestic dog.  Our garden is quite large so we are able to spray and generally safe guard the dogs as much as we can, but it's a  great pity that they don't have the freedom that dogs in the more temperate countries enjoy.  However,  it is what it is and it's why we would never consider owning larger dogs.

Dogs can adapt to any climate, from the North Pole to the equator. It's the dog's health that decides if he will thrive.

Don't you vaccinate your dogs? Haven't you heard of flea / tick prevention?

 

I have 3 dogs. A poodle, a chihuahua and a terrier. Every day they go on an hour long walk and run around the village and in the countryside. 

 

They meet plenty of soi dogs, cows, buffalo and humans. Never had a problem as they are socialised and know how to behave around other dogs and animals. In fact they have many soi dog friends that follow us on our walk sometimes. There a few more territorial ones..but it's all bark and display and my dogs basically take no notice. 

 

Also never had a problem with snakes or toads, centipede or scorpion. Even have lots of toads live in the garden and one huge one often sits on the doorstep with the dogs laying next to it eating insects attracted to the outside light.  As for snakes, the dogs leave them alone after having a bark at them from a safe distance.  

 

There is no reason you can not take your dogs out, unless you have bot trained or socialised them, not vaccinated them, or they are so dumb to go around swallowing toads and attacking soi dogs.

What a dumb post. Of course they are vaccinated. You decide how you deal with your dogs,  but don't insult my intelligence by suggesting that I don't know how to look after mine. I could say more, but I would probably be banned and you and your views are not worth it.

I clearly was confused because in your post you said...

 

 you can't take them out because of diseases and parvo virus? So I presumed you did not vaccinate them. After all, if vaccinate these diseases pose no problem to your dogs.

 

You also said you don't take them out in cause of ticks?.  If you use tick prevention then again this is not a problem.

 

I am at a loss to know how a lizard is a danger to dogs.

 

I don't think you need to worry so much. But I would be more concerned about the toxic insecticide you spray your garden with to kill the scorpions being a health risk to your dogs, than letting them have a romp in the countryside.

Okay. no problem.  We do give them tick medicine, but so did a friend of ours and his dog died from the effects of a tick bite.  I admit that I am quite paranoid about their safety.  Our boy dog has already had Parvo virus, from which he recovered after hospital treatment and also a chest infection, so he's obviously not the strongest dog around.  I know that I am over protective, but better that than to lose him early.  

 

Meant to add that the cat died of a liver fluke that the Vet said probably came from eating the little lizards.

Problem we have is a few houses feed them every day trying to out do each other.

One house has a big bucket of water outside like a hot tub.

I am sure I saw them getting a steak meal the other day.
