Dialemco
Yes everyone is scared of Covid especially now it is established no long term immunity even after you have had the viras therefore any vaccine is also likely to have limited effect. Foreigners are also scared to travel so even when borders opened so not expect any mass tourism especially when Thailand so close to China where the viras emanated.
Mikeinapac
Wonder how this poll would look if they spoke to the people impacted by the lack of any tourism that makes up nearly 20% of the GDP?

Boyblue
If you ask 1,200 people in an area that doesn't have or benefit from Tourism, you will get this result. what about trying the same questions in Samui, Phuket or Krabi where most benefit from Tourism, would it still be the same, and is 1,200 people a big enough sample, i think not....

I have been here 15 years and I really dont feel the dislike directed toward me that some of you are moaning about. Maybe its because I dont live in a heavily touristed area?? b*gger me....a Thai survey is taken where some Thais say they dont want 'foreigners' back yet....meaning ANYONE that is not Thai (from Albanians to Zimbabweans) ....the immediate reaction by a lot of the paranoid here is that they specifically mean FARANG.....that, shows the level of your insecurity. I agree with them. I think Thailand needs to be careful. I think those with families etc should be allowed in with all the right precautions taken. Just because there are some dinosaurs in power that dont like farang doesnt mean that mindset is across the board, far from it, I feel younger people are a lot more tolerant and interested in the outside world. Infact, if I am courteous I am generally treated well by most and I do mean MOST Thai people. Why is it so different for some here? why do you think many are complaining about the treatment of foreigners from Thai's? Do you think it is some mysterious mass hallucination? I can assure you that my time living in Thailand the animosity toward myself was very real, and I am 100% sure I am not alone. I think it is good that you are not feeling it, there will always be exceptions. In short the moaning does not stem from nothing, the expat numbers falling by 60% is not my imagination. As I said, if it doesnt effect you in your world then carry on and good for you but dont pretend it does not exist.

Even although people will have had covid tests they are still opposed to farang returning. Maybe they need to take a look closer to home. For example if people don't get tested how do they know who is transmitting the virus. People cannot afford to get the test due to the cost so in reality they don't really know how many people have the virus
wazzupnow
i suggest that this half of the thai people give half of their income to the other half that is starving because of loosing their tourist related businesses and jobs

Samui and especially Phuket, have been screaming for years ~ Get out! These two location especially don't want tourism, just look how they welcome the foreigners. The only way they allow us to coexist is if we just keep our eyes down and follow the lead that is provided to us. They do cherish the foreigners that defend the locals positions, those expats they need to sustain their message, that all is well, and it's just in our heads, what is taking place all around us each day. I started in Phuket in January of 2000, and for sure it is not the welcoming place it once was for foreigners.

Popular Post RocketDog
This is partly just a display of a tribal instinct that fears anyone outside the tribe, especially when life is hard. Rationality and fear are not commonly bedfellows. It's also called nationalism today, and America's very own Agent Orange is stoking this instinct every day to sow division and rancor against any person not a white male. History is rife with authoritarian leaders using this tool to solidify power. What country is not demonstrating this to some degree today? I refuse to read too much into this simplistic survey. If a large majority of Thai nationals disliked foreigners in every way life for us would be significantly harder than some think it is now. Let's all take a deep breath and chill.
