Eligible people have used 5,088 privileges to reserve rooms under the “Rao Tiew Duay Kan” (We Travel Together) tourism stimulus package within one hour of it opening for applications.

"Rao Tiew Duay Kan" is a government package, which is a combination of "Tiew Pan Suk" (Trips to share happiness) and "Rao Pai Tiew Kan" (Let's travel together) packages to encourage Thai people to travel across the country within four months, from July to October, this year.

Saturday (July 18) is the first day that the government has allowed eligible applicants to receive a 40 per cent discount on rooms subject to a maximum of Bt3,000 per room or night. Each applicant can reserve up to five rooms for five nights.

As of 7.30am, the remaining privileges were 4,994,912, down 5,088 from a total of 5 million.

Eligible applicants can check-in at hotels from July 21 onwards, while they can reserve rooms until October 28 this year. The project will end on October 31.

The missus booked a room in our fav hotel on Koh Samui for next weekend.

the "40% discount" discount represents a night rate 10% less than when we stayed this time last year.

Did you contact the hotel direct to ask them the best price they could offer this year. Wouldn't be surprised if you could undercut the 40% off in the first instance.

I contacted nobody, the missus takes care of domestic flights and hotels.

I bet you the 40% "discount" is calculated from their inflated prices at peak season, and the highest priced room. It's probably technically right. Last year you had 30% "discount" compared to their highest priced room at peak season.

Missus signed up but no expectations from me, see what the feedback is.  Probably get a better hotel price through loyalty programs or calling direct who knows. Me I don't like the headache but if the wife wants to do it,  so be it.  Heading to Korat next weekend so see how it goes.

Standing ovations are in order, keep up the good work!

From reading the news looks like some hotels are raising prices to eat up the 40% stimulus money and get their normal rate also. Govt should have had hotels lock in prices when signing up.
