Speeding remains biggest factor in road accidents in Thailand

Sadly I think the male ego would account for most accidents. Thai men just have to get to their destination faster than everyone and they’re sure they’re all the best and safest drivers on the roads.

There are only two peddles in a typical Thai sedan.
 

80% of the licensed drivers don’t know, haven’t been told what one of them is for. No exaggeration. Ask a Thai, see what occurs.

 

Same number don’t know what indicators are for. 

 

The only reason the yellow lines are sometimes dashed is cos they ran out of paint. I kid you not.

And still the Government does NOTHING to stop this.  Chase Vehicles, Radar Guns, Transponders, and a Police Force incenticszed to stop speeders and others commiting aggregious driving habits.

Thete are no highway traffic police patrolling for speeders, drunk drivers, wrong way drivers, etc. Those hideous brown/yellow cars seems to be used to escort bus caravans, self proclaimed VIPs (Very Intrusive Persons), and hiding from doing serious enforcement.

 

Reform of the police was somehow overlooked by this latest gang. Pathetic. The Thai people deserve better.

Drivers aged 20-24 have the most collisions in all countries. Add to that that half the modern population of Thailand is under 25. Then factor in mobile phone usage which is on an exponential upwards curve. etc, etc.

 

Policing here is different, the weather is different, the landscape is different, the road system is different, the food is different, the whiskey here is different (actually rum), OK the beer is the same Euro p i s s but...

 

So we add all that up and the underlying factor is different to what most moaners on here are familiar with.

So, build finally better roads, problem solved. Now we still jump from one pothole to the next and use a jet ski after 30 mts of rain, coz all is flodded

I'm surprised that it's not pulling out of sidestreets without looking, or overtaking when it's not safe to do so, oh, but that's OK, because they flash their lights to oncoming potential victims. 

Oh, and not to forget the old favourite of cutting the corner at a junction when turning right, or stopping on a roundabout to give way to cars approaching the roundabout. 

I don't see many problems on the road, involving speeding cars, but I have seen cows walking on the road with more road sense than most of the drivers.

It is not going over the speed limit so much as totally reckless drivers.

 

Interesting in that they say only 16% of accidents involve motorcycles yet over 70% of the fatalities are those on motorcycles.  I would say over 50% of the accidents I have seen had a motorcycle involved.

Not wearing a helmet dosn't "cause" accidents but most certainly is the biggest contributing factor in Thai road fatality numbers!

Lack of driving skills, lack of attention. And a sprinkling of a suicidal tendency.

It's the lack of driving skills and awareness + distraction and reckless driving, more than just speed. Most Thais can't drive safely even at low speeds. And those freakin' insane motorbike antics!!! :post-4641-1156693976:

building super highways will not make one iota of difference, Thais are more than capable of killing themselves without even trying.

Not adapting their driving speed and braking distances according to the road conditions. The two second rule does not seem to apply here at all. Some drivers just see the bigger space to squeeze into.
