Foreign investors eye Rayong for new rubber factories

Both domestic and foreign investors want to establish rubber glove factories at an industrial estate in Rayong province to meet soaring demand during the Covid-19 crisis, said the estate’s developer.

 

“We have been recently contacted by Thai Hua Rubber Plc to form a joint venture to establish a rubber glove factory in Lakchai Muang Yang Industrial Estate, starting in 3-5 months after the installation of necessary machinery is complete,” said Lakchai Kittiphol, CEO of Tribeca Enterprise, the estate’s developer. Thai Hua Rubber is the parent company of Tribeca.

 

“We also have investment partners from the European Union, United States, Malaysia, China, Taiwan and Japan who are willing to invest around Bt20 billion in the rubber glove business, whereas building a medium-sized factory would require around Bt5 billion.”

 

Foreign investors are eyeing Thailand because of its strong logistics infrastructure and rich raw materials, Lakchai added.

 

“Although Thailand has higher minimum wages compared to neighbouring countries, the rubber glove industry is hardly affected because most of the manufacturing is done by machine,” he said.

 

“The company would like to see more support from the government, especially in providing soft loans to entrepreneurs interested in investing in rubber-related industries.”

 

The rubber price in Thailand has risen since April to Bt40-45 per kilo. The price is expected to reach Bt50 by year-end but not climb beyond a ceiling of Bt70. The main customer for rubber producers – the tyre manufacturing industry – is still stagnant due to economic contraction caused by the virus crisis.

Rubber has much pollution/residue and if not policed..... (Doubtful - pay offs for inspectors more likely)..............

Rayong has Oil Refineries and Chemical Production Facilities in an area called Map ta Phut.... ALREADY A LOUSY HISTORY OF POLLUTION........

The lovely beach resort town of Ban Chang, about 40 minutes drive from Pattaya, In the near future could rival Pattaya, is nearby this 'Pollution' in 'Map ta Phut' city'.... Ban Chang has a few lovely bars (Pattaya type) and some expats live there, and Property values are 'LOW' because of the Pollution from Mat ta Phut..........

Also Rayong is home of one of the 'lovliest ISLANDS'..... KOH SAMED........ which has been spoiled by 'Oil Spills' in recent years, but now clean again......

So I am fearful of more pollution in the area, such as this New Rubber Facility......

Lovely beaches in Ban Chang? Have you ever been?  They are mostly terrible.  You can find reasonably clean stretches, but most are rubbish strewn and soi dogs by the hundred, no good food available either.   Beaches in Rayong are much better and not at all polluted.  Island spoilt by oil pollution?  No more than anywhere else. Fake news mate.

Property values low in Ban Chang......what planet you on?, They are very high for sales and rentals!!

I worked in Map ta Putt and it is huge but very high safety standards. Same as the west. Of course there will always be a incident such as a gasket failing but that is the nature of the beast. 34 years in the petro chemical industry so I no what I am talking about.
