Songkran compensation days off set for September

At its meeting on Thursday (August 13), the Cabinet unanimously voted to mark Friday September 4 and Monday September 7 as public holidays to compensate for this year’s Songkran holidays that were cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. 

 

The four-day weekend in September was a good choice as this month does not have any public holidays, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said.

Yes, of course it's vitally important to make sure that the civil servants don't miss a single day of the paid leave to which they're entitled, the government can worry about the millions of jobless people going hungry afterwards.

The holiday is for non civil servants too. In your country they stopped the holidays because they have unemployed?

That aligns perfectly with the Labor day weekend holiday in the US....lol.  Looks like the US Embassy staff will be only getting those days off as they normally would, speaking of Thai personnel. So a 4 day drunk fest is on the books.  Lock up your women and children as all hell is sure to break out as its the first weekend of the Month and Thai's are sure to have money to burn.  Sure the Pattaya resorts and beaches will be busy.  That just means that Bangkok will be nice and calm as everyone will flee.

Songkran is normally a three day holiday. Have we really only had one extra day so far/

Probably not, though.

When Thais are only entitled to six days per year annual paid leave - and none in their first year of employment in any particular work place - you want to begrudge them their entitlement to go home and visit family?  Why do you think it's only civil servants?  It is all working Thais.  Don't you think factory workers, cleaners, office workers deserve it?

Cambodia also cancelled their New Year holiday (same time as Songkran) and they have given it back as a 5-day lump next week.

But factory and most businesses still work on most holiday having mandatory OT with being normal 6 days a week on going. If Thailand was Egypt Thailand would be able to make a pyramid in normal Egyptian time.

They aren't the true Songkran days and 2 of those are falling on weekend days. So normally and normal times I say ok, but word is still out. Maybe 1 extra per worker for the 4 days off. Hard to tell. Oddly what nobody sees, is Thai seem to always give one day off and take it back for work somewhere else to make it up. But most Staff Thai businesses work 10-12 hrs everyday as well. Not talking about the factory management in the factory daily or workers themselves. They always work a lot, and now this year is a lot more.

Am glad I worked the first sub day cause now I can add it to these and have a 5 day weekend !!
