Migrating Mac Bookmarks to new PC

Featured Replies

Hi all. Recently converted from Mac to PC / Windows 10 and I would like to migrate all of my Google Chrome bookmarks from Mac to new PC. I don't currently have google / Chrome / devices synched. Whats the best way to do this?

First of well done to come back from the dark side ????

As far as i know you just login to google on your PC and it will have all the bookmarks. They are saved to your account. So no special things are needed just login to google browser with username and password. Then all should be there.

Thanks. I worked it out without synching things up. You have to type a URL in the address bar of Chrome and then it allows you to export bookmarks in HTML format which can then be imported into Chrome on the new Computer. When you go into bookmark settings there is a link to import, but nothing for export. I guess another way they try to encourage you to share your life with them

There is a simple method to export Chrome bookmarks.  Click on the three dots at the right end of the menu bar and select "Bookmarks" and then select "Bookmark Manager".  A new window listing your bookmarks will open.  Click on the three dots on the right end of the search bar and you will find  "Export bookmarks".  You can then choose a directory and file where they will be saved.  Copy that file to your new computing environment and import from that it.

I find it strange, because i never have to export my bookmarsk at all when i start with a new computer. Because its all saved in my gmail/chrome account. You once log in to chrome and done for life ever. What you guys are doing seems strange.

Look at the automatich stuff. Its all about having a google acocunt and your set for life even if your computer crashes and you cant recover bookmarks.

I like to check out different browsers so I need the export functionality occasionally and some folks are more comfortable wearing a tin foil hat????.

In Google Chrome on Mac, click on Bookmarks at the top menu, then choose Bookmark Manager.

When new window opens, in the right side, top of the window, click on the 3 vertical dots:

This menu will show up:

Choose Export Bookmarks.

Give it name, and save it to file. Copy file across to a PC (FAT or ExFAT formatted USB stick or external drive, or over network or over email or whatever way). It's a standard HTML file.

On PC, inside Chrome, do the same, but choose Import Bookmarks, and browse to file.

I know that people love wearing tin foil hats the amount of people on this forum that like wearing them is really high. It does show me there are quite a few oddballs here like many people say.

However your explanation of multiple browsers is reasonable.

I prefer the crazy safety tinfoil hat people over the anti vax ones. The crazy the government is tracking me guys are harmless.
