Highway police sniff out "Ya Ba" use at checkpoint in Surin

Two men driving a pick-up in Surin were stopped and investigated after Highway Police officers at a checkpoint noticed a tell-tale odor.

 

Samart, 25, the driver of the Chevy and his passenger Songchai, also 25, were asked to get out of the vehicle at the checkpoint on the Surin to Prasat Road (Route 214, between KM markers 212 and 213) on Wednesday evening. 

 

Ya Ba (methamphetamine mixed with caffeine in tablet form) was found in Samart's back pockets. 

 

A further quantity of the drug was found in a bag behind the driver's seat. There were 141 tablets in total. 

 

They admitted taking drugs as they drove along and admitted they were selling the meth. 

 

They were charged with driving while taking drugs and possession with intent to sell and handed over to the Prasat police. 

 

They reportedly said that they bought three to five bags of Ya Ba a month for 12-13,000 baht a time for subsequent sale.

 

Both men are from the Prasat district and were on their way to Surin.

If they had been using it, as it has a distinct smell. Easy to smell it coming off of a Bar Girls breathe or anyone who has used it near your nose breathing your way.

High or drunk does not matter much good that they catch them. People high and / or drunk need to be punished harsh if they drive  a car or motorbike.

Can only say it has a smell when its smoked, not sure if there is any smell after use. Not that familiar with it. But would doubt that there is much smell after use especially if ingested.

You can definitely smell it on a person breathe. Easily. It is smoked and not eaten.

Pushing drugs should be arrested too. But as I said before I don't have a problem with drug use per say. I mean just imagine how much drugs are used (if you look at what they catch you can imagine what they don't catch). Then given the huge amounts consumed most consumers are not that bad. Same like alcohol consumers (both are hard drugs) they only have a good time. It all changes when they drive a car or bike or when they get aggressive (aggressive drunks and high people are a menace) however this is just small number of people.

This is true.  Remember on several occasions when going to bed with my Thai GF, I could smell a 'Plasticky' smell from her skin.  Didn't know for about 9 months what this was, until she eventually told me what she was smoking.

Yeah, I have called it straight out to several gals before on their breathe who sat by me when I was visiting BKK scene.
