What? Yep I am sure that countries like the US and China will be quaking in their boots at the thought of having to take on Thai submariners.

  • They've got a useless aircraft carrier, been moored at Sattahip for years, open every year for Children's day! Came with four Harrier jump jets when they got it, all now useless and stuck on top

  • That is the BIGGEST load of codswallop i have read in a long time. Who/ what are they going to use a submarine against? Nobody can answer that because nobody knows.

Just preparing for the inevitable.

I have seen it on TV last night the show last more than an hour ????  first with a long  a comparison accompanied by graph showing the number of submarines per country, Myanmar, Cambodia Vietnam and a few other Asian countries all of them having more submarines than Thailand, without mentioning the models or their ages not even sure that all those submarines from these countries were still all usable lol.  They even compared  with the story of the rice scam with the former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, scam which would have cost the country much more than those submarines, absolutely pathetic!  ????

Submarines have been useful in spiriting away fallen leaders and national treasure. That can't be the reason in Thailand but it has been known to occur elsewhere.

I find the (presumably mostly white farang?) derision, sarcasm and cynicism posted here repulsive: downright shameful and disrespectful.  - If you're happy to see China walk over the entire South East then I suggest you just shut up and watch it happen and remember your cynical / inactive contribution to that.

And I find your naiveté downright embarrassing time to take the rose tints off and smell the coffee!!!

If you cannot see that the hiso's in charge have not already pinned their colours to the mast for personal gain then God help you and glad you have exactly the same amount of power to change things as I do, namely sweet fa

Your right everything I see from the idiots in charge demands cynicism and derision there is nothing honest or honourable in anything they do, they are incompetent nincompoops who have sold their country and people out!

Thailand's men in green  are buying Chinese submarines they are helping the walk over.

Is this goon Sittiporn truly implying, that in the event of a clash with the Chinese, in the SCS area, that Thailand would go to battle protecting it's neighbors? Really? Are there five people in Thailand that believe that?

In reality, it is about envy. They have subs. We don't. I really want one. It would be great fun. We can protect against so many threats to our coastline!

Personally, I want a Gulfstream 600. And a new BMW C650 sport. And a 160 ft. yacht with a full crew. But, they are just silly, juvenile and impractical dreams, that will never happen. Hopefully, same applies to the goon.

The Chinese immigrants to Thailand have been infiltrating the political system for decades. Now that motherland is flexing it's muscles, the sleeper cells are activated. As many things Chinese, they have taken their time to set the trap.

These are "they".

Thanks for defining the they you were talking about. I thought they were in Dubai? How could they be buying submarines via the military junta that hates them with a passion? Doesn't make much sense to me. I do agree with you that they are pulling strings but to get the Junta (their mortal enemy) to buy subs is a little far fetched I think.

Just for clarification on my original post as most people seemed to have missed it I said "they the overwhelming majority of Thai people are not sino-chinese".

Not really. But the idea is that they will indeed be in the SCS, to tell all others there to <deleted>-off, side by side with the Chinese navy.

China 'invested' in the Thai government, and told them to buy the subs. It's a win-win-situation for China and for the Thai generals and admirals.

And later in the South China sea, China will order Thailand to side with China, in order to improve the global image of China.

It sounds so much better if an "International coalition led by China' fends off an aggressive invasion from Chinese sovereign territory in the South China sea", isn't it?

This is for what the generals are paid for by the Chinese, and for what the watches were provided to ol' fatty.

Well how convincing is that! The Chinese have already STOLEN the South China Sea, what you gonna do about it! ????

they are going to send the sub out looking for all the slant eyes.....and giv em all a bowl of rice !!!

Have they found out yet that subs go underwater?

I have an idea. Why doesn't the Navy borrow the money from the Army. The army could sell just one of it's 18 golf courses, and pay for the 36 billion baht deal for the submarine trio.

Using that money at this time is an abomination.

Probably a case of envy. The US has 53 fast attack submarines, 14 ballistic-missile submarines and four guided-missile submarines. Why can't we have just a few?

I thought you were thrilled to have left the US in the rear view? sounds like a humble-brag tbh.

That's true but if we compare it to the amount of money spent by our own countries in these same hard times it's a pittance in comparison. I totally agree it is an abomination that they are spending this money on a sub but playing the devils advocate here would we even be in this ridiculous arms race situation world wide if it were not for this whole childish mentality?

Lets call it "Seaview" I've just watched "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea." in the movies they came back from the bottom of the sea, will it be repeated? Last man close the hatch!

I assume thats why no country colonised Siam. Just too far gone and too much effort to make the natives civilised.

The bigger the purchase the bigger the skim, that is the only reason for this,

When they get their Chinese subs, I hope they remember to roll up the windows!!!

The independent nations of S.E. Asia that want to retain sovereignty of their seas and trading routes will need to get together in some form alliance to provide a reasonable threat and defence against the might and creeping Chinese control of the seas.

And Thailand does this by buying cruddy Chinese subs from the creeping Chinese???

The only risk to Thailand is China and they don’t need submarines to keep them out, the Thai doors are wide open !

Thailand and China in this scenario are about the same as a bargirl "resisting" her barfine for the night.

They can go park them with the aircraft carrier--and I use that term loosely since it doesn't have any aircraft, at Sattahip naval base.

Sorry, no need to argue, this is purely Thai people concern, they think & do hopefully what they are tought or want. Any critic remain only unuseful and not polite talks from guests.

The Gulf of Thailand is 300' at its deepest, hope the all submariners ( Sonar ) are superbly trained. There's plenty of Oil platforms, pipelines etc, down there. Don't need an environmental and energy catastrophe to go along with covid paranoia.

Not a thing to do with a little skimming ???? maybe a few hundred million for those not so much in need?

If Thailand wishes to have a defense at sea a super fast motor torpedo boat with air missiles and machine guns. 6 of these would serve a multitude,  fast interception of any kind.
