Rule Britannia my a**e. It's all about England. As a Scot, I hate watching these public school educated <deleted> waving their little flags. Change it to incorporate Great Britain, you can't colonize us and still keep your own songs. Let's change Rule Britannia to 'Flower of Scotland' or 'Donald, fere's yer troosers'!

scotland isn't a colony.

it is quite relevant as Scots were/are slaves to the English.

Lets not forget the Welsh , who were sent too the depths of the earth . Kings Coal .

Not too mention, the Blast Furnaces , been there ..

And they were singing , Hymn's and .....Land of my fathers .. So sad ..

No, not all Scots want "independence". Scotland is an influential and integral part of the UK. Not a former British territory, dominion or colony.

But like all "nationalists" don't let reality cramp your vivid imagination of the unreal.

Fine words coming from a British/English nationalist.

That was humour , 30 odd years later and people still think he was serious when he mentioned the fourth verse of the National anthem being anti Scottish , the reality is that the UK National Anthem only has three verses and Scotland isnt even mentioned in any of the verses , cannot believe people did not know this , were none of you in the Boy Scouts?

There’s not a lot of humour to be found among most of the Remainers.

Big Yin’s both a Remainer and separatist, so one of the few exceptions.

How can he be both a remainer and a separatist? Remainers want to stop separation and the imposition of barriers between ourselves and our 27 European partners. It is the Brexiteers who are the insular minded isolationists.

How can he be both a remainer and a separatist?  By wanting to remain in the EU and wanting Scotland to be separated from the UK.

Surely the benefits of the removal of 27 unwanted barriers and the joining of a union of equal partners far outweighs any negative impact from the imposition of 1 barrier with an abusive, smothering and limiting neighbour?

What? Rule Britannia is the ultimate song of freedom  and should resonate with  those who are 'woke" and 'lit" and  want to signal their virtue.  It is quite obvious that you have never read the lyrics.

Unlike  some other countries which celebrate domination over others, Rule Britannia speaks to peaceful adventure of  ruling waves, as in  mastering the seas. Quite a contrast to some other  countries lyrics such as this all time  chestnut;

Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, über alles in der Welt"  ("Germany, Germany above all, above all in the world).

Rule Britannia is all inclusive and so very appropriate in today's movement against slavery. The  lyrics  Britons never, never, never shall be slaves speaks to freedom. Britons is an all inclusive term Black, white,  chartreuse, all are welcome to join in the song of freedom.

For all those waiting for the great leap forward, to champion freedom, what better way to channel one's inner Joe Strummer or Billy Bragg than to sing out for the fall of tyrants and for the people to remain untamed.

If these people who now reside in the UK object to a cornerstone of the UK culture, why would they move to the UK? What is offensive is your use of  the term "British  colonies". Obviously you are not woke if you use the term "colonies". Horrid man. I am shocked.

Your comment is more than silly.

Since the end of WW2 the lyrics changed in German Anthem. It's about unity, rights and freedom.

But obviously you did not realise on your island. Alternatively you are blind or deaf I suppose.????

It does look tragic to me to see those 80 year old geriatrics in union jack suits, it looks embarassing, and Rule Britannia is a poor piece of music. Land of Hope and Glory is much better. But there is a whiff of the very odd about that whole event.

Well saying that . BBC , provide the union jack suits, made in China .

A good  free mosh UP , , bangers n mash , with apple tart n  custard  , for afters ..

Good too see  my BBC  license fee , is put too good use , feeding the geriatrics .

Oh , and not forgetting , feeding the BBC, executives.  Day by day .

Methinks you would benefit from learning a little of the history of how it was the Scotts got a reputation of being ‘tight’.

It is not a history that the English have any reason to gloat over.

Chomps , please inform us .

Links , would be much appreciated ...
