New clubs sure can make a difference.

I had an old set of Cobra knock offs for over 20 years.

Recently, went to Bangkok and bought this set at Thaniya plaza.

6 Cleveland irons stiff shafts

A Srixon 2 utility club.

And, a new bag.

All for 12,000 b.

I think it is a pretty good price not sure.  The clubs showed 1/2 off.

Anyway, I played yesterday the forgiveness of the newer technology really helped.  Add, I was hitting them 10 yards + further then normal.

I got very good distance with the utility club can hit it off the tee for position on shorter par 4's.

Anyway, I am very happy I wish I would have made the move sooner makes me motivated to play more now.

Stiff shafts are often a mistake, as guys get older they often move from Regular to Senior flex, make life easier

Maybe for some.  I tried both not a mistake for me.

I am 6-2 and can still swing hard with plenty of power.

I usually out drive everyone in my group by plenty.

Regular are for weaker, slow swingers.

Senior flex for people who swing like old ladies.

The only way to buy clubs is to get fitted. You sometimes have different flex shats in shorter irons and woods.

Also important is the lie angle at impact as this can change the ball flight significantly.

Also grip size, and swing weight should be considered.

One should never buy off the rack. Bit you do need a decent club fitter as its a specialised profession.

Depends on your swing speed, plenty of golfers swing hard and regular flex suits them, often ego makes people get stiff shafts, but everyone is different if they work they work

You certainly seem to be the golf expert and have much more knowledge then me.

So, any place any time lets play.  Just send me a pm and let me know would really enjoy meeting you for a round.

Looking at buying a new set of clubs myself, and need to find a place where they not only fit clubs, adjust clubs, but also video analyze your swing and such as they did for my last set in the States.  After having had fusions to the neck and back I definitely do not swing the club like I used to.  Can anyone point me to a location or company here in Bangkok that does all of this.  It does not truly matter fortunately on the price, so please no half witted comments needed.

A couple of the shops at Thaniya plaza Bangkok have that service.

I've given up playing proper golf in Thailand, until they make caddies optional I'm out, I've found other interests and saving 6k baht a week, better things to spend money on

Haha.

So, you have given up golf because you cannot afford the 300 b caddy fee?

Don't want to tip them?

Yet, you are constantly on here giving your golf expertise and input.

Wow, just hilarious...

Hey, meet me for a round no worries and I will pay the fee for you.

And don't worry, I won't make fun of the senior/lady shaft clubs you swing.

Looking forward to a nice meet and golf round together.

Well, I would be more then willing to challenge your 5 straight up.

Stop avoiding it and let's play.

Name when and where..

Maybe stop bragging so I can come back and report the truth.

So, let me know just bring some cash.

Oh, I won't hold my breathe.

I bet I drive it 50 yards past you with your senior shafts.  I certainly am not afraid.  But you must be I will pay for your caddie fee and tip.

A very very weak afraid response from you just disappointing, but now I get it.

I am willing to meet and let's post the final scores on here.

But you, just all talk....

I have been coaching for 35 years and have 3 national team players and 6 students on full golf scholarships in the US. I also coach an olympian and an img world junior player of the year.

I updated my coaching by training with a guy that has coached two world number 1 players and his students have over 170 victories on the USPGA and LPGA tours.

I have not played for 2 years so a 20 handicapper could probably beat me now.

You are confusing knowledge with ability.

Scuba was correct and you have taken it as an affront. Your idea of what you think your and other people should use are not based on reality.

There are many variables that a professional fitter needs to consider, not a coach, not a pro, not a good player, an actual fitter.

Beating someone at golf has nothing to do with knowledge. Your ego is getting in the way of common sense.

A very amateur mistake thinking distance is all so important.

???.  Ha, what are you talking about?

A 20 you are a hack.

The bottom line is not ability or knowledge, but the score.

Geez man, figure it out.  Distance is the name of the game now you seem very out of touch.

I asked him to play me straight up and he claims he is a 5.

I will do that no problem.

Your comments are totally worthless.

Yep... the woods are full of bit hitters...

Posted

Famous Youtube golf teacher Rich Shiels just did a video where he hit an old wood persimmon driver 270 yards off the tee. His new $500 Cobra driver went 280 yards.

2 things?

Is technology all it is cracked up to be?

You bought a whole set of irons that were cheaper than 1 new driver. Did you get new technology? Or just newer clubs for you.

Most good set of irons are around US $1200

Distance gets you closer to the pin, so you are using short irons and not long irons.

Look at all the PGA tour winners. The majority drive the ball 300+ yards so distance is very important.

I will be out on this thread.

50 years of playing golf I know a little.

So, I am always open to some competition.

Anyway, let me know if you are not scared and want to play.

Let's do it. Anytime any place, let me know.

I have been a pro for 38 years. I dont play anymore.

However, what you have said has nothing to do with beating anyone. You are plainly wrong. I could beat people with a set of old hickory, doesnt mean they are suited to me.

Anyone that buys clubs off the rack obviously has no idea.

You are blowing smoke

A 20 handicap cannot qualify for a PGA teachers license

And scratch golfers, don't become 20 handicappers ever

No one in their right mind would hire a 20 handicap and no, sorry, you don't have knowledge or you would be a certified PGA Professional teacher

How do you update coaching watching?

which is why you get fitted. Drive it 300 and straight or drive it 310 and all over the place just so you can say you out hit someone.

So clueless.  I never said they were off the rack did I...
I reported I bought them and in fact they had the right specs for me.

Send me your PM.

You played for 50 years? So what?

What's your claim to fame? Because you said so?

Retired PGA Professional?

PGA teaching license?

I see old folks, and I mean old, playing golf everyday and they suck.

They have been playing for 50 years as well.

I just played in a mixed tournament with 36 teams.

Guess who won the closest to the pin trophy for the tournament?

My wife.

You would never hear her bragging how great she is, even though she is.
