Pattaya: After the busy long weekend the resort is completely deserted again

Two reports from Pattaya media contrasted the long holiday weekend and what followed.

 

For while one was upbeat about the large number of Thai tourists that descended on Pattaya for the 4th to 7th Songkran replacement weekend, the other presented what is more like the new normal. 

 

Deserted streets, bars and restaurants.

Sophon Cable TV spoke to the general manager of Flipper Pattaya that operates three, three star hotels namely Flipper House, Flipper Lodge and Levana Hotel. 

 

Suwannee Tripetchkun said that Thai tourists packed all three out 100% on Saturday night. Friday and Sunday nights were 60-70% full.

She said most visitors were those with families and people in work. She noted that most booked very late or were walk-in arrivals; this contrasted sharply to the past. 

 

Her organisation was offering 999 baht deals, she said. 

 

However, she said that this rise in numbers was only true for the long weekends. She called on the government to come up with more long holidays to spur growth in the sector. 

 

She pointed to the complete absence of foreign tourists as a problem.

Another report on Facebook came from Siam Chon News. They agreed that the resort was busy for the long weekend but by Tuesday the 8th things were back to normal. 

 

Walking Street, Soi Bua Khao, pubs, bars, restaurants and streets were all deserted again.

Having not experienced that sort of Pattaya...it must be quite pleasant - no tourists shouting at their new 'girlfriends', no Russians walking round in department stores in their swimming gear, no drunks staggering around along beach road, no long lines of Chinese tourists, all with their hotel towels, following the tour guide along the road, no unlicenced motorcyclists (tourists) racing around the place...might just have to go down for a few days.

The locals have stepped up to the plate along with the Grab food delivery bikes, it is like Donington Park.

same. on the french coast in lock down. nice quite.  ,its not just thailand , its the world that is suffering  and business  everywhere.  ,and lets say WHY.  .due to the Chinese  eating wild animals.  ,how many people in the world. lost loved ones ,how many people out work ,how many business  have or will be lost world wide ,streets and bars are empty everywhere

Yeah, and I'm not sure how many of them have licences and insurance. The one who stupidly cut straight across in front of me, and narrowly avoided ending up under the wheels of my car, certainly didn't.

i predict the city will downsize, a good thing for me personally.

the expat will stick around for the most part,

and that means the businesses i utilize will still be around,

many thais will leave for good, but enough are around that i can get thai massage & thai food whenever i feel like it,

the rest that leaves just means less traffic jam.

 

i pity the hundreds of thousands of thais that are falling on hard economic times though

No....the answer is letting foreigners back in w/o Q and manage them...

 

otherwise, expect a week-day ghost town...

I have a great idea how to get all the western tourists back ! Round up everyone who has ever handled a sea slug, sea urchin, or any other sea creature that has managed to wend it’s way through the plastic bags and sewage, throw them in prison, fine them heavily, disgrace them in the media, and deport them. This way the clean and perfect tourists will flock here, knowing that the authorities are on their side ????

I mean it sucks that we are not allowed to enter Thailand. Who is gona pay for all the girls and the life of the family in isaan now? The government? Yeah, of course.

But after years and years of seeing and feeling the arogance and cheating on us dirty farangs, its a kind of satisfaction

to see that whats happening now there. They need to wake up again and understand that its all about our dirty farang and cheap charly money in the tourist hot spots, that they can pay bribes to the police and politicans and live a wealthy life.

Good lesson, but it wont last for long, I know.
