i couldnt believe it arriving at suwanaboom today.

where there used to be a crowded frenzy of people awiting thier loved ones, and taxi touts awaiting thier next meal, is now an open area with the waiting people herded back behind potted plants as barriers.

i couldnt believe they have actually made an improvement in the airport!

congratulations thailand!

Dear Sriracha John,

It seems that TV members are only interested in bad news about the airport.

Anyway thanks for trying.

Cheers

I think what Onzestan is referring to is different than the thread linked to by Sriracha John. Last time I arrived at BKK the crowd was indeed pushed back and there was much more room for arriving passengers in the immediate area around the arrival gates. But after you passed that marked off area it was still just as bad as before and the metered taxi stand was still down one level. Only an improvement in that it allows passengers a bit more space to catch their breath and look around for any person they're meeting before eventually being hounded by the ever-present taxi touts. If they could just push them back more, ie. outside, all would be solved, but I doubt such an easy solution will ever be done at BKK.

To my latest trip I found Suvarnabhumi also very improved, especially that the check inns for international and domestic flights are in the same building,at the old one you had to take a shuttle bus or a long walk to get there!

It looks like a copy from KL in malaysia it looks similar.Only the transport to the city I still see as lacking,in Kl you have the undergound ,very convenient. Also found the aiport still a bit unpersonal,I guess cause it is still new.But I found it surprisingly good, and saw many toilets, but full with water, they should make them without these disigns,a bit amateurish.......But all together a big improvement.

The official metered taxi queues remain on level 1 as of 23 May 2007. Grabbing a taxi on level 4 (Departures) is being aggressively denied; I found it impossible to do today.

Coming out of Exit B earlier today I did note that the throng of greeters/touts have been pushed back even father than 30 days ago, and there is a wide, open space for pax exiting Customs. This initial change was made a few months ago.

Many of the negative aspects of the airport have been or are being corrected as the new management team seems to be listening to critics. They should be commended, in my opinion.

I've had ~ 24 departures/arrivals since 28 September 2006 (I flew out the day the airport opened, at 06:40) and am very pleased with the new airport. I realize I am in the minority. (I still haven't gotten a remote gate yet.)

It is interesting that the runway issue seems to have become less of a problem? And the new facility seems to be surviving the monsoon rains. Many predicted disaster; roof failing down, leaking, runways floating or sinking, etc.

You will find that a big number of domestic flights have moved back to the old airport so you will have a even much longer walk than before between a lot of international to domestic connections !
