Forensic officers were on the scene on Saturday after a police patrol discovered many well sealed black bags in the undergrowth off a road leading to a deserted depot in the Nong Pla Lai area of Bang Lamung, Pattaya.

The bags were found to contain more than 200 kilograms of crystal meth or "ice" worth 150 million baht.

The area was sealed off as forensics looked for clues and took fingerprints. There was evidence of a fire.

Bang Lamung station chief Pol Col Pattanachai Phamornphiboon said that the packages were spotted by a patrol at 3.30 pm about two meters off the road in a deserted area.

Chonburi provincial police chief Pol Maj-Gen Prakarn Prajong ordered drugs' officers and local police to work together to find who left the drugs there.

Why would they be patrolling a deserted area at 3.30 in the afternoon when there are lots of students to 'fine' returning home from school without helmets?  How did they notice bags 2 metres off the road? (There are scores of dumped bags of rubbish every ten metres all over the area.)

This was a lucky windfall for Pattaya Plod.

Nah. The stuff is worthless, hence it was dumped there. No tourists => No commerce. The Thai clientele who normally buy it are not employed.
