Contractor dead after drinking and driving his Vios into the irrigation ditch in the rain

Nam Phong police in Khon Kaen in north eastern Thailand were called after locals saw the roof of a red car barely visible in an irrigation ditch.

Rescue services towed the Vios out of the water and a man in jeans and white shirt was still strapped in behind the wheel.

A Thai ID in his wallet revealed that he was 48 year old Narong.

Police inquiries discovered that he was a contractor who had left Muang district of Khon Kaen on Saturday to pay the wages of workers in a village.

After doing this he had been drinking until late Saturday.

What with the heavy rain in the area and the likelihood that he was worse the wear for drink police think he lost control of his vehicle and, there being no one about to help him, died behind the wheel.

An autopsy is being carried out at Srinakarin Hospital and relatives have been informed.

Another unnecessary wasteful loss of life.

In this case it is fortunate that he did not hurt or kill anyone else.

Drinking and driving in Thailand is still perfectly socially acceptable, the government and police have made no inroads whatsoever on this issue. Many Thai’s I know still think its funny when someone is so drunk they have an accident on their way home from boozing.

Maybe a loss of life but no loss to the public of an idiot who drinks then drives

Still seems to be socially acceptable to get loaded and drive... until that perception changes these accidents will continue.
