Pattaya: Woman claims extortion from men claiming to be police

A 20 year old woman from Sisaket went to Pattaya police to file a complaint claiming she was extorted out of money by several men claiming to be policemen.

 

Reports on what happened on Tuesday night varied from Ruk Siam News and Channel 7 reports. 

 

Ruk Siam reported on Facebook that Anantaya said that she was sleeping alone at a condo when a man who she respected as her elder brother called her and asked for help saying he was facing a drugs' sting. 

 

She said that she let him come to her room in Soi 9, Moo 10 and claimed she did not know what drugs he had with him. 

 

Then four men claiming to be police came and arrested him and said that she was involved and would face arrest too. 

 

She said the men said they would let them both go in exchange for 50,000 baht. 

 

Fearing jail she paid up. 

 

Ruk Siam said that the police took her report at 4 am and went to investigate looking at CCTV. They also reported that one of the men was indeed a Chonburi police officer but gave no further details. 

 

Channel 7 said the incident at the condo happened at 11.30 pm on Tuesday. They said the woman was asked for 50,000 baht but she bargained them down to 20,000 baht. 

 

She was then taken to an entertainment venue where she borrowed the money from someone. 

 

Then she was bundled blindfolded into a pick-up by 4-5 men before being dumped at the end of Soi Wat Tham Pattaya Tai. 

 

After consulting with people about what to do she was advised to report the matter to the police.

Stories generally do not emit any odors. What they do is report a "story", written by someone who in all likelihood was not at the scene when the incident took place. I read these blurbs and move on, being neither policeman, judge or jury.

What?  No police request for sexual favors from a vulnerable woman...these were likely not Thai police...????

Hard to believe Pattaya police were working at night.

That is when they do their extorsion when its dark, like still taking their protection money from the struggling bars as i witnessed last week.

Due to Covid, everywhere in Thailand is "inactive" so I guess he will have his choice of transfer.  ????

I too witnessed protection money being paid for a 'music' licence in a bar with no equipment.  The most blatant however was mid-morning at Dongtan police station where a fat officer refused to do anything about a stolen car even though the miscreant had been arrested by family members and was in his office; the thief had done it twice before; he wanted 10,000 to set the wheels in motion.  The thief was never prosecuted & the car owner had to pay the bank for a car she no longer had for four years more.

The country has an 800 years old tradtion and well working system of Mafia-style state organisations and networks, like police, army, administrative bodies and courts, which all by common law are allowed to expoid the peasants and all others below them in the Sakdina pyramide and who have not invested financially to become members of these organisations.
