Just let me back in before my Retirement Extension expires and I'll do 3 weeks! ????

You can get a new retirement extension if you're here, regardless of any amnesty.

Go see a visa agent, he'll tell you.

Even seven is too much. Test on departure and arrival, that's it. Otherwise only desperate ones will travel in.

Many Thaivisa members seem to be quite desperate.

Keep bargaining and let's see who will win, but seems Covid will be the winner since they admitted that even 2 weeks would not be enough in some cases.
I see second ave is on the way waiting at the border to get in.

this is what united airlines just announced....seems to have merit.

You can wait for the vaccine. Be my guest. I hope we have something by the end of the first quarter of 2021.

I don't think we can wait that long. Which is why I hope that Abbott Labs (ABT) can bring back some normalcy to this country -- and the world -- with its BinaxNOW rapid antigen test for Covid-19 along with its amazing Navica app that shows if you are safe to be admitted to where you want to go.

Look, I am a huge believer in the hoped-for vaccine. I am speaking to Sanofi (SNY) today about their incredible partnership with sworn competitor GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) about their efforts. I am trying to get into the Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) trial that was announced just yesterday.

But let's face it: we can't just presume that a vaccine works if a couple of thousand people are walking around in a bunch of cities for two months and they don't come down with anything. And we also can no longer presume that even if it seems to work anyone will take it because the darned thing's gotten so politicized. That's how unreliable the whole federal medical apparatus has become.

Which brings me back to Abbott's recently announced rapid test and its really cool Navica app that I have downloaded for free. Right now it is hard to find this 15-minute test because the federal government has procured 150 million of them to start the process of opening America with a higher degree of confidence than we currently have. That's about all that's available of this simple test that's done on premises instead of sending it out to some faraway lab for results.

It's pretty easy. A clinician takes a nasal swab, wipes it on a card and in 15 minutes you know if you are positive or negative for Covid-19. The results are then downloaded to your Navica app and a QR code tells you whether you have Covid or not within a 97% accuracy rate. It becomes your easily scanned cellphone test about whether you can enter or not and it is a heck of a lot more meaningful than a temperature take which you could argue may be for show because many really really sick people with Covid don't have temperature.

I believe the federal government wants to be able to test kids so they can go school or be turned back if their code shows positive. Obviously, you would keep your child back if she tested positive. The good news would be that both spouses could return to work -- no one would have to make the sad choice between a child's health and their own financial well-being. I think it is the most important priority out there right now.

Once Abbott Labs gets fully up to speed, though -- and they are spending hundreds of millions of dollars and hiring thousands of people to mass produce these kits --  the government won't be the only ones with tests. The drug stores can take over and really make this a mass product.

Here's how I see things shaking out. I know that the most impossible thing I am going to say tonight is that the Eagles will be in the Super Bowl.

Of course, I would go, Covid or not, because I am a total knucklehead Bird fanatic.

What I would envision is that by Super Bowl weekend in February everyone would have downloaded Navica and the airlines and stadiums will all have Navica screeners. The day before I go to the airport to fly to Tampa Bay, I will go to my CVS (CVS) after work and get my non-invasive 15-minute test with the results uploaded into my Navica app. I know you might have heard that you have to have some reason that you think you need to take the test. I think we have plenty of reasons so I am not worried about being rejected. You shouldn't be either. You won't be. I'll have my results, in my Navica, by the time I get home.

The next day I am going to go to the airport and just like I use my QR as an e-ticket to get on the plane, the airline will have a QR scanner to get your Navica verdict. If I am negative I will get on the plane. When I get to the stadium they, too, will scan my Navica and, again, I will get in to the game to see the Eagles probably beat the Patriots for the second time in three years.

Now, there's a catch. The test is only 97% effective. So you still want to wear a mask. But isn't 97% of something better than 100% of nothing? Oh, and after we win? I'm going to Disney World, where, by then, they, too, will have Navica readers so there's no tests, no line, and I am right into the Magic Kingdom.

The odd thing? I seem to be the only one who knows this will be the future. Gary Kelly, CEO of Southwest Airlines (LUV) , didn't know about it when I asked him yesterday. I don't know if Disney (DIS) has figured it out either. Suffice it to say I see the future they don't. Get ready for it. It's a lot more likely than a victory by the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

The chopping and changing and indecision by these medical professionals would shame some of the politicians!

Of course there are also honest and sincere medical professionals in Thailand, however these real specialists do not have a voice the Thai press and television when it comes to issues like immigration and quarantine for tourists.

But of those "medical professionals" who are given a voice in the press, each one just acts as a mouthpiece of his personal political paymaster, to support his individual agenda.

Therefore, if this paymaster is a olive-green-dinosour with costly watches, his personal "medical professional" will insist in the press on a much longer quarantine for foreigners, as if this paymaster is let's say related to the ministry of tourism and its civil stakeholders.

Keep in mind that the elite is only unified against the peasants, but not against each other.

The French are in a state of panic. They'll face their toughest winter since WW I. Run away COVID numbers, and no more ICU beds with respirators than in March, which this time will have to be shared with the influx of the cold season standard ailments and accidents. Looks like even Tin Anus would do a better job.

So that 7 days thing is just more nonsense.

Anutin is the Public Health Minister and was he not recently bestowed a lofty position with WHO for SE Asia? If WHO has a minimum standard for quarantine of 14 days, how on earth can Anutin as a WHO representative advocate 10 days... Another non-starter..

A non-starter is sticking with 14 days and destroying tourism.

Several European countries already have a 10 day quarantine, such as Switzerland. I'm sure most countries will soon reduce their quarantine periods from 14 down to 10 days and possibly 7 after that.

No, it's a good reason to reduce the quarantine down to 7 days to free up hospital beds. Same reason why Myanmar reduced it's quarantine period from 21 days down to 14 and now 11 for mild cases, even in the midst of the highest number of daily cases since the crisis began.

Yesterday they said 7 days for tourists and today 10 days for all other arrivals. They are more likely to cut the number of days for foreign tourists than Thais, otherwise no one comes. It's an obvious economic decision.

Basically all standing around scratching their behinds and watching what every other country is doing , then spouting off about it as if they thought off it !

If this nonsense is still going on by xmas and new year then there will be a lot of very very unhappy and poor people in tourist areas and tourism related jobs !

Exactly. The way I see it is the way it's been reported here and the other article from the BP yesterday. 10 days for most arrivals starting soon and 7 days for tourists under the STV scheme possibly starting Nov 16, then potentially down to 1-2 days while waiting for results by December or quarantine free altogether, depending on country of arrival/nationality.

I don't see things being fully back to normal by the end of December (Xmas/New Year) but probably half way between normal and the current very abnormal.

I'd say the earliest for full unrestricted travel will be March.

I understand your point, of course, and agree that it is (or better should be) an obvious economic decision to facilitate the entry of foreigners by reducing the time of quarantine. However, what I meant in my post is that I suspect there is much more to the way the Thai government handles this issue.

For someone related to the tourism industry, and I think this is the case with Pipat, it is clear that it makes sense to reduce quarantine to help the tourism industry.

But for other more powerful guys in the government, especially the generals, their individual "economic decision" not necessarily has to be related to the benefit of the industry. They make their individual economic decisions more with a focus on filling up their own pockets. This is why the contracts for the subs were signed, this is why the high speed trains were ordered in China without international tenders, this is where the costly watches really came from, etc.

It is well known that the Chinese use measures like bribing currupt politicians in other countries within their road-and-belt initiative . And I assume some of these unusual rich guys here are well paid now in order to ruin the industry to make it a bargain for Chinese investors later. This is one reason why in Thailand the government has created such a paranoia about Covid. So, their goals are indeed completely opposite to those of other ministers of this government.

And this is not a Thai speciality, by the way. China acts similarily in other countries of the region right now.

Doesn't matter .... 14 , 10 , 7 ,  2 .....  until a safe vaccine in produces and quarantine completely removed then and only then will tourists return,  and of coarse flights & border openings.  imo

What do you mean ? people are so stupid that they use a vaccine for a flue ?

a $hit vaccine that could bring more problems that good ?

people cannot be so stupid, right ?

this has nothing to do with "quarantine"! The virus was already circulating, and "infection rate "is not really appropriate, well rather positive rate on increasingly huge numbers of tests...! Many are "asymptomatic" and nowadays that we know how to cure sick ppl,, very few ppl die, and not so many of the positive need to have medical assistance !!

tell me the same in November/December in the UK/US...

starting to get desperate for tourist's.

If they really wanted some tourists back they would have had the new tourist visa in place three or four months ago to give people time to plan their high session visits.  This visa will only appeal to a limited group of better off snow birds who normally overwinter in Thailand - but those people have probably made alternative plans by now.   They also are deliberately keeping out people who have made a long term commitment to the country e.g. people who have retirement visas/bought homes.   I suspect those who were working in the tourist industry are getting desperate but everything that we have seen and heard suggests to me that the High Command like things just the way they are.

What we have been seeing here for months is the "Government of Thailand Competence Team". Years of abuse of office through bribery and nepotism. It is seldom noticed, tourism has always been a sure-fire success, it almost doesn't matter which idiot is at the top. And now there's the best live show in a long time, a new day, a new great idea. I'm curious when the pockets of the thieves up there at the top will slowly be emptied because the bribes are missing, which definitely come in partly through mass tourism. Then at the latest the panic will be great.
