Popular Post Quietus
Thailand has allowed 15,000 tourists to stay here on visa amnesty. They did not have to do this. Popular Post FalangJaiDee
As a Thai anthropological expert, my senses tell me that this is done deliberately to direct the traffic of panicked “””tourists””” to rush the visa agents and pay extortionate fees; being so fearful of the prospect of having to leave (lol) and potential arrest/incarceration. The conventional immigration infrastructure cannot withstand what will become a monthly stampede leaving it to the last minute. Well done 2

You really need to think more outside of the box than just tourism in respects to the Amnesty. There are many more here on non immigrant visas, work permits, and border passes from the 4 border countries than there are here on a tourist visa. My companion is at CW right now trying to get her working visa to teach at a school. The IO she spoke with, who initially denied her the visa until the school apparently went over her head, played dumb when she brought up the upcoming announcement. The IO even acted a tad surprised that she knew anything about it.

Instead of bringing in a new amnesty they could have allowed anyone on illegal overstay to stay as long as they want for 500 baht per day. Those who are cashed up (the sort of foreigners Thailand wants) would have agreed and coughed up 15,000 baht per month to stay for the next few months. Those living on mama noodles in fan rooms because they're broke would have to leave.

But there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference whether I do or not, only that if I did it need only be seasoned during the application approval period. After the one-year extension is received the 400,000 can be used anyway, until rinse and repeat in 10 months time. Correct? Yes, only difference being the not-needed 2 month seasoning period when applying for reason of dependent children vs marriage.

Your arrogance is over the top seriously. You speak with no intelligence. The people relying on the Visa amnesty are not the ones that close the borders and grounded all the flights. I'm sure they would like to get out of this toilet as soon as they can. The way this is being handled is a complete joke. Now the rest of the world can see how Thailand treats its guests during an emergency. I would think twice about going there on a vacation in the future. Thailand has never been a gracious host to its visitors. They're very lenient with locals who commit crimes of theft and violence against foreigners and they dual price foreigners. Crimes of these types should be viewed as a hate crime. So if the people that are stuck here care to voice their negative opinions on how they're being treated it is not up to you to decide how they should act. 6

Could it be possible that PM's authority to order a further amnesty was contingent on there being a continued state of emergency, thereby giving him the emergency powers to further extend the amnesty? If so, that would explain the lateness of the amnesty extension. He could not do it until after a new emergency decree has been formally put in place maybe?
